“Our Home Away From Home at Christmas!”

Oasis Villa Resort

For 16 consecutive Christmases—1991 through 2006—The Oasis was our home away from home due to Mom's now 21-year affiliation with Vacation Internationale (VI). During those years, we'd check in on December 22, one car filled to near overflowing with gifts, some food, Yuletide decorations, supplemental cookware/bakeware, and of course our luggage. The bounty left just enough clearance to see out the car's back window without getting pulled over, and stopped just short of the bungee cord for the trunk!

Although this year (2007) will be our first year elsewhere because The Oasis was already booked the same week Mom and I returned from Greece (mid-July), I'm still writing this review because it's almost next to impossible to consider another facility in the Coachella Valley any time in the year. We've been in all the 2-bedroom configurations at one time or another, almost always getting the deluxe.

The peace and quiet at The Oasis is unmatched. We buy most of our Oasis groceries at the Ralphs, the Von's, the Stater Bros. (a little farther away), and—since '04—Trader Joe's. The Cabazon outlets, the Palm Desert Mall, and of course the nearby Target have been true blue lifesavers for those last-minute gifts.

Exercise has been invigorating at The Oasis, especially as daytime highs any Christmas week we've been there has never exceeded the high '60s/low '70s. We can swim, play tennis, bike, and walk right on the premises (with the latter two activities available, of course, off premises). We even got lucky in 2000, the year we got an inside corner lot truly suitable for several other types of kids' ball games.

We've entertained friends at various times over the years for lunch, dinner, and even overnight/two-night stays.

Finally, we're thrilled that The Oasis has returned to its full VI management glory. In late 1997, Sunterra bought out VI and let The Oasis interiors go to seed. By 2003, many of the timeshare units needed repair and renovation. Thankfully, Sunterra's management agreement expired in early '04, and the refurbishing began in earnest!

    • Liked — Most everything (even under most of the Sunterra years) in the units, easy guest parking, peaceful atmosphere, responsive service, many pools so as to not be stuck in one main, deluxe units
    • Disliked — Getting in the first night after the gates have closed, going home!

“Relax in peace”

Oasis Villa Resort

After driving from Anaheim for the first part of vacation, this was a welcome stop off before Vegas. Friendly staff, clean units, plenty of pools to choose from. The units all have cycles to ride around the complex. The rooms were well kept and spacious, we had 2 bedroom unit. BBQ outside on patio which was a good alternative to eating out and saves you money.

The only and I mean only downside was the grass being mowed practically daily which can spoil the peace, but hey this was the only gripe amongst alot of positives.

Finally, downtown was a car ride of 5 mins, lots of places to eat, drink and gamble if you wish, you knew that your accommodation was safe in the gated complex until you returned.

This place is so relaxing. You don't have the crowds like at the other Palm Springs hotels. There are numerous pools and one "main" pool. We like to hang out at the main pool so we can enjoy the ice cream sundaes and bbq hamburgers on the weekends. The staff is very friendly and the villas are extremely spacious. We have stayed at the Oasis approximately 7 times and we always try to go there when travelling to Palm Springs. A recommendation for eating in Palm Springs, Kobe Japanese Steak House. Everytime we go to Palm Springs this is where we eat. They have an early bird special if you make your reservation between 5pm-6pm.

Found this resort through our timeshare network. There are several positives and only a few negatives.

Positives-
Location! It's right on Palm Canyon Drive, the main drag through Palm Springs and all of the surrounding communities (Palm Desert, Indio, etc.). There's a Target and Trader Joe's (and Von's, but it was kinda drab) within in 1 mile.
Space- We got a 2 br, which was basically a huge apartment with a murphy bed, so it slept 6 (+1 on the couch). We had a grill on our patio, and it was about 10 steps to the main lobby. Kitchen came with anything and everything you'd need.
Service- We checked in at 11pm and the night clerk was nice and helpful (not scary). Our grill wouldn't light and someone came within 5 minutes to fix it. You don't get maid service if you stay less than 8 days, but we were ok cleaning up after ourselves for a week.

Negatives-
This is not really a luxury resort, but after cruising around Palm Springs we realized there aren't really that many of those anyway. The decor is early 90's and nothing about the place was stunning. It was all very practical, just nothing to brag about.

I would stay here again if I returned to Palm Springs and wanted a solid home base, but not if I was trying to have a glam vacation.

“A real Oasis”

As we drove into Palm Springs from the North West end of town we wondered why on earth we'd decided to spend 4 nights here en route to San Diego. However, after a bad first impression Palm Springs gradually improved as we neared the downtown area and our minds were completely set at ease when we pulled into the Oasis. The grounds were beautifully maintained and the one bedroom apartment was very well appointed, clean and comfortable. The choice of 8 pools meant you could always find a quiet one and the hot tubs were genuinely hot - almost too much so in 90 degree heat. We didn't trouble the staff much but they were always polite and helpful when needed and we soon discovered that Palm Springs is actually a very pleasant place for a holiday. The washing machine and dryer in the apartment were very efficient and very welcome half way through a two week trip. The local Vons supermarket was about 1/4 mile away and had a good selection of fresh and packaged foods so that we could self cater and not have to bother with driving to restaurants in the evenings. In fact, an on-site restaurant is about the only thing the Oasis lacks but that doesn't stop me from giving it a fulsome recommendation.
