“Timewarp gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

Stayed 4 nights at Movie Colony and had a good time: Excellent value for money with free parking and complementary breakfast (from 08.30 - 10.30) + wifi, very comfortable beds and nice atmosphere. The pool itself is not very large and the space for the sun beds somewhat limited, and you better like the "evergreen" music (think Sinatra, Beatles, Elvis) that is played as background music throughout the day.

The reception staff very friendly and the happy hour (from 17.30 - 18.30) was a nice touch.

The room (14) was large and comfortable, but beware of creaking noises from the upstairs room whenever anyone is walking around (it may be large to the rather large gentleman staying there, but think it was a general problem).

Location is good but not great, as it is a 10-15 minutes walk to get to the abundance of restaurants that can be found in Palm Springs. Not a problem in March/April, but could imagine that it would be unbearable in summer, so car definitely needed.

Room Tip: The two-storeys townhouses are the original buildings from 1935 and have a large second story terrac...

Friendly staff and super clean and tidy outdoor and indoor spaces show the love the owner has for this place. We had a patio room which was enough space for two on a short stay. Breakfast and cocktail hours (complimentary) were perfect. Lounging poolside in the 30C afternoons or soaking in the hot tub before bed made the stay here even better. Nice and close to the old strip and in a neighbourhood packed with old Hollywood style. A definite return spot for us...we loved it.

Room Tip: If staying for a short time the patio or terrace rooms are great. If you are planning a longer stay...

Do not be discouraged that H G Wells' time machine never came to fruition, simply drive up Indian Canyon Drive and check in at the Movie Colony Hotel. Here Art Deco meets Mid Century Modern in a very unique property. The rooms are comfortable with period inspired art and furnishings. Don Draper would be comfortable sipping a Manhattan alongside the courtyard pool. The breakfast is ample and the 5 o'clock wine hour not to be missed. During our several stays we have enjoyed the hotel bicycles to tour the architecturally significant surrounding neighborhoods. It is speculated in urban legend that Jim Morrison's spirit still visits the MCH and if you hear a splash in the pool at 2AM it could be Jim and his L A Woman.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights and were greatly surprised by our experience. We had no expectations, but found it to be glamorous, like stepping back in time to Dean Martin, Marilyn Monroe, and Frank Sinatra era. We really enjoyed getting to know guests during the free happy hour, which included "Dean Martini's" and wine. Also enjoyed the 24 hour open pool and spa...such a great policy! The service was wonderful and very helpful...but allowed for privacy when you wanted it. Wish we would have had time to enjoy the free bike rentals that you can take into downtown, but this was a business trip for me. We loved the quiet, and quaint atmosphere! A true getaway experience!

I'd read all the reviews and couldn't wait to stay here, though I''d wish I'd been warned about late check in, we were ok but barely....If getting there after 6:00 please call as they lock it up tight for the night around 7 ish. We got in, got a tour, and happy hour was in full swing, every night a drink and wine was out waiting .Pool and hot tubs always open, though we lost electric one night so everything was cold most of the next day. Breakfast filled us up with bagels, yogurt and fruit, cereals, coffee and teas...healthy for sure. Friendly, chic atmosphere as only 16 rooms, and no kids! Bikes were there but we were too busy relaxing!

Room Tip: We stayed in the two story area, very comfortable, checked out the town homes as they were being cle...

I stayed here with a friend in November, really enjoyed it and would definitely return. You need to be aware that the website makes the grounds and facilities appear much more luxury than they are so if you are expecting 5-star then this is not for you. If you want a large, clean, comfortable room with added touches like robes, a relaxing pool area, friendly service and a come and go as you please style vibe then this is perfect. We loved the pool area (still warm enough to swim and midnight) and the hot tub was fantastic - a nice small hotel so it was not at all crowded and felt like our own private pool most of the time. Background music from old Hollywood days was a nice change to most hotels. There was a nice fire pit and a kitchen/bar area. The bar had complimentary wine and cocktails from 5.30-6.30 I think but we were never around to take advantage - otherwise no bar service available. The bar doubled as a kitchen and there were breakfast items - pastries, bagels, cereal, coffee etc available in the morning to help yourselves. Overall the hotel had a really nice laid back relaxed vibe to it - kind of like hostel feeling but luxury! I would definitely reccommend it - just not if you are looking for a true 5 star luxury hotel. This was also a great location, having stayed at a motel further away previoulsy it was great to be within close walking distance to the main strip and some great bars and restaurants.

We stayed here on the last night of our honeymoon after returning from an excursion in the Sierras. Very accomodating of our late arrival. Super clean, extra comfortable lodging in a retro old Hollywood era hotel. The hot tub was a dream! Many thanks and much appreciation for a great stay! The staff also arranged early morning transportation for us to airport. AAA+ and take advantage of rate specials. Highly recommended.
