My wife and I were lucky enough to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary at the Hotel California in Palm Springs.
From the first introduction by KC, the welcome drink and the walk around the property we were hooked. The content and quality of our introduction answered every question we could possibly have asked, and plenty that we didn't.
It was clear from the attitude of the other guests around the pool, that this was a place where you could chill out and relax and let the Hotel California team and the hotel ambiance smooth away the stresses of the road!
We stayed in the "Town House" a lovely clean compact two level room, with all mod cons, a private terrace, shared balcony terrace and two flat screen tv's, convenient parking and steps away from the very quiet spa pool.
We appreciated the "bottomless coffee" that was always ready to go, the fruit in the communal kitchen for a light bite, and the variety of interesting nibbles in the room.
The pool was clean, warm and quiet. The shared guest areas were all clean and relaxing. It was a joy to sit in the spa or shaded communal areas and watch the humming birds drink nectar.
Throughout our stay the staff were really helpful and friendly, but never invasive - or too much. Judged perfectly.
We had a chat with the owner - who seems like a great chap - feet firmly grounded in the real world! While chatting, I thought of saying "if you could bottle the Hotel California" formula and sell it to one of the big hotel chains, he would probably make a fortune - and then it hit me - a hotel chain simply couldn't replicate it - they couldn't reproduce the attention to detail for genuine reasons, they'd have to get their percentage profit from every little thing. At the Hotel California its the cumulative effect of the small details that create a big overall impression!
As we checked out, we explained to the owner about our drive to the LAX airport, so he gave us to frozen bottles of water - just in case we got stuck in an LA traffic jam. The owner figured we might need a cool drink if we got stuck for hours! That's the kind of thoughtful detail that you get at the Hotel California - a lovely gesture for the right reasons, with no thought of exploiting a potential profit making opportunity. How refreshing.
Palm Springs is lovely, and sets the bar high. Hotel California pushes the standards even higher!
It was a joy to stay here, we'll certainly be back - and for longer next time too. We'll recommend this hotel to our friends.
Any room will be great!!!
