“Amazing place! Awe inspiring and an honour to be in a reservation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

We LOVED this place!!

We hiked both palm and Andreas canyons which were incredible. Loads of palms and huge, huge canyon walls and rock formations. So very interesting. The hikes were not too taxing at all, both around a mile each, and you are in shade for large portions.

The highlight of our day has to be tribal ranger Mike with his talk on flora and fauna, the beginnings of life in this area, when the agua caliente tribe first arrived here, stories about the tribe, their way of life And culture. We even saw where the ladies pounded plants such as mesquite info flour and he explained how they used other desert plants.

It was a real honour to have the privilege of being on their reservation, learn about their past and present culture and to experience pristine wilderness (it really is kept so well). What a treat!

“One of our favorite hikes ever!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

Indian Canyons (Aqua Caliente) was a rare treat -- even in September heat! Although it's $9/head it's worth every penny! The Andreas Canyon loop will go down as one of our very favorite hikes ever! We were advised to follow a bubbling stream (which runs even in the summer!) as we walked uphill through the gorgeous rock formations, crossing over the stream half-way and going out onto the plateau (and sun!) for the route back. Ranger Mike Herman gave a truly GREAT talk at the Trading Post (at 10am most days, but check). He can talk for hours and is an amazingly informative about history and native life. What a great guy -- and he even gave my husband a bandaid for his knee -- thanks Mike! The views out over the valley are stunning! Lots of longer hikes are all around, but you should probably plan an early morning trip as it gets pretty darn hot. (Grounds currently open at 8am). Don't miss this place!

“Expensive admission”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2012

This is a beautiful area with spectacular views. However, I would have expected a native/first nations people would want it accessible to all. Rich tourists and locals have no problem but seniors on a fixed budget, students, certainly anyone in low income brackets will have to settle for other hikes. Too bad. It is very hot during summer months and definitely not worth it when the humidity is high. In winter it would be a better bet.

“Great hike, even better views!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2012

This hike was very easy, and it had amazing views! You go right out of the dessert and into an oasis, it is very cool. We had to pay to get in, but I highly recommend this hike!!

“Georgeous walks through oasis”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

You drive into the area, pay a day use fee and park and then hike. There are several hikes - one is only about 1/2 miles around a small oasis. Another is about 2 miles. You cross the creek around a dozen times. The water is clear and the palm trees are magnificent. At the end you are at the base of seven pools/waterfalls. It is difficult to go further but many people do. There are many hiking trails in this park area.
