We've probably stayed here 20 times over the past decades, and barring some disaster, will probably stay here at least 20 more times. We're up to two visits a year. Makes it hard to compare with other Palm Springs/Palm Desert resorts since we haven't stayed elsewhere in years.
It's not for everyone--if you like the predictability of a large resort, then by all means, stay at a large resort. You're not going to confuse this place with the relentless perfection of a Four Seasons, and in my book that's a good thing. It's quirkiness is it's charm.
BTW, Don't confuse "quirkiness" (good) with a "funkiness" (bad). Given the age of the buildings and appliances, the maintenance is good, the service is great, and the staff is wonderful.
It's a unique enough place that it's hard to describe the resort. It's sort of like visiting your grandmother's house, with ancient fixtures, 50 years worth of ad-hoc remodelling, and knick-knacks everywhere. Well, it's like visiting your grandmother's house, if she had exceptional taste, a lot of flair, and a large and good household staff.
The pool patio ranks as one of our ten favorite places on the planet to spend a day.
Every room is unique, every one has its charms, but some of them also have their location challanges. One of our early visits, we remembered to keep the floor plan they gave us in a findable place so we can pick out specific rooms for future stays.
