“Get the right room from the start for a great stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2009

This was booked as a late holiday without too much review. To start I would say that nine days of the 10 we spent there were fantastic, but the first 24hrs not so great. We stayed in Jasmine Court.

We have stayed in Palm Springs many times but always within a golf resort and the 'self-catering' option was new to us. We had originally booked a standard double room. Opening the door to the room was very disappointing. All rooms and villas have adjoining doors so if you are a light sleeper with noisy neighbours, forget it. The fridge and sink are about two feet away from the bed and so when the fridge activated if you were on that side of the bed it felt like it was buzzing directly into your ear.

In the morning we went to reception and found the only option was to upgrade to a one bedroom villa as this meant the fridge and adjoing door would be in a different room. However this was not a simple step. They would first have to cancel our holiday reservation and then set up a new reservation in our name, they couldn't simply upgrade us, even though we were paying for it. Luckily our travel agency (Virgin) were fantastic. It took nearly all day as Marriotts system was not geared up to do upgrades. It took Virgin Management to speak to Marriott Vacations management to sort out between them.

Eventually late that day we got the Villa, and from then on the holiday was fantastic. Great room, great food, good facilities, and of course some great golf.. The moral is, to have a great holiday book at least a villa, and book it from the start.

The resort is very well maintained. Furniture, bedding, carpeting all in good condition. Rumor is updates going on thru the complex that will change out the cabinets, counters and appliances to updated versions. Different layout than alot of condos...and a very nice difference.

We found 3 cockroaches on our patio the first night. We called the front desk and had them spray the next day, but more still came back the next night. Found many spiders and webs on the patio furniture.

Living space is plentiful. Has great kitchen amenities and convenient stackable washer/dryer. Very comfortable bed, and nice bedroom and bathroom layout and accessibility. We stayed right next to the large family pools and cabana, not noisy at all. Grounds are kept beautifully manicured, very personable employees throughout the complex, convenient mini store on-site. Lots of restuarants, shops, Costco, Walmart, etc all within minutes of the resort. Lots of dining around Palm Desert, Palm Springs, etc. 2 hr drive to LegoLand in Carlsbad. Premium outlet shopping, over 130 high end designer stores @ Cabazon, about 40 min drive. Palm Springs is just down the road 10-15 minutes away. Casinos are just within 15-30 min drive also. Great Getaway & relaxing vacation!

Our villa was very roomy, the best was having a washer and dryer in our villa. We were able to pack light. The villa was quiet and had fun at the Palmeras pool. We have always had a great experience at the Desert Springs Villas.

Traded for our stay through Interval. We traded a 2 bedroom but was only able to trade for a one bedroom because that is all that was available. The property is very pretty. Our back balcony faced a pond with ducks swimming. The rooms were spacious and clean. there was a sink in the bathroom and another sink with Jaccuzi right near the master bedroom. Two TV's, one in bedroom and one in living room area. Fully equipped kitchen. There was no maid service unless you wanted to pay for it but this was not a problem because we had a washer and dryer in unit and washed our own towels daily. They provided detergent.
We used the workout/excercise room a few times and although it was quite busy there seemed to be enough machines available.
There were at least 3 different pool areas that we saw on the premises, so if you wanted a pool closer to your unit or one that was more quiet there were options.
The only other complaint besides no maid service is that we went to the front desk to fax something and they charged us for it.
This was by no means the very best place we have ever stayed but we enjoyed the peace and quiet and the spacious rooms as well as the access to good shopping & restaurants nearby. El Paseo Rd has some very upscale stores.
Because of the restful stay there we will go back again.
We heard that they were very strict about a 10am check out but we left one day early so did not have a check out time limit problem.
Free high speed internet service in rooms was also a big plus for us as well as free parking.

The space was huge - we had a two room suite and the kitchen was well stocked. Plenty of room to spread out. We invited friends for the weekend to use the second room because we felt guilty having booked it and then not making use of it. There is clearly some wear - spots on the couch, marks on the kitchen counters and etc. But nothing terribly off-putting. It was clean and well furnished.
I made use of the washer/dryer, spa bath, patio furniture, salt water pools, and the gym. The gym got crowded around 9am, but otherwise no trouble getting a treadmill. The cardio equipment had personal TVs, HR monitors and the TMs were smooth. It was a small gym, but adequate for vacation mode - complete with view of the pool.

I highly recommend seeking out Yesi for a massage.
