On short notice we booked a Guest Room at the Villas I. Our small family was quite pleased with the size of the room including a separate jacuzzi tub and stand alone shower. We had a west facing room (#9216) on the 2nd floor with a balcony so we had great sunsets. The Villas 2 is in walking distance and looked architecturally newer than the VI. We had friends staying at V2 while we stayed at VI. Though we didnt have a chance to see their room, they said V2 was awesome. The rates were about the same and we chose the Villas I over Villas 2 because you get entry to the JW Marriott resort when you stay at Villas I.
Went swimming that evening at the clubhouse pool, had 2 jacuzzi's and a small kiddie pool. No flotation devices allowed though people brought them anyway. Our beds were absolutely heavenly and we slept well.
On our 2nd day, we took the hotel shuttle to the JW and stayed at the main pool. We had no problem finding chaise lounge chairs. The scene at the JW is great for the single crowd and young couples. There were several bachelor and bachelorette groups. People in the lobby were dressed to the nines and the atmosphere felt trendy and very metro. The bathing suit clad crowd at the main pool were beautiful. We ate lunch at the pool's cafe which was excellent. Later we took the boat tour which was nice, short and informational.
For dinner, we drove to El Paseo and since there was a 40 minute wait at the Daily Grill, we walked to Antonio's---a fabulous mexican restaurant. We went to Daily Grill the following evening. I highly recommend both restaurants.
Weather was overcast and humid at about 105 the whole time but we like the heat. We paid $149/nite. I recommend the Villas I for family and quiet get aways.
After checkout, we went to Marriott's Shadowridge to visit another set of friends on vacation. Their 1 bedroom villa blew away ours. They also had a family friendly swimming pool with water slide, water playground and 1 foot deep kiddie pool. This pool was full of floatation rafts, rings, toys, etc. Bring your water guns. They had a cafe and a separate adult pool if you did not want to be near the kids. Next time, we're staying at Shadowridge.
