“Nice stay and amenities”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013 via mobile

Came here with the family (3 and 5 year old)and enjoyed the pools(3.5 feet in most places) and the kids club activities( ping pong, football, climbing wall) Nice sized rooms with all the supplies provided in the kitchen. Would stay here again.

We have been owners of a Marriott timeshare property for about 10 years. This is our 3 or 4th stay at Desert Springs. We found the villa we stayed in to have been completely remodeled from out last trip. It was absolutely gorgeous! The size of Desert Springs villas seems to be much bigger than many other locations. The fact that the second bedroom is offset a little makes it feel even bigger. This location has the best tennis courts by far...clay, hard and even a grass court! So if you like tennis to play tennis you won't be disappointed.
Being a family of 5 we really prefer to stay in Villas due to increased space and the use of a fully equipped kitchen. We had extended family who stayed in nearby villas as well.
This property is especially wonderful because you also have access to the JW Marriott Hotel's amenities...that property is located on the other side of the villas. It has wonderful restaurants, superb pool area and a top notch spa.
We are HUGE fans of the Palm Desert area as well!

This vacation was very different for us as we never vacationed during Xmas before. It was the best vacation we ever had. We had an end unit one bedrm on 2nd floor. We really enjoyed watching the golfers every morning on our balcony (but wish we had an inside unit meaning not along the major road it was somewhat noisy). The unit was clean but noticed a few minor things they should consider changing. The stacked washer n dryer was very very load. The bowls in the kitchen were way too small. Other than that, we are already planning our trip back.
We never experienced ants, maybe because we requested a second floor unit. But it was somewhat colder than normal when we went (highest temp was 65-68). Highly recommend to take shuttle to JW Marriott and go on the free boat ride out of the lobby. Very nice. We loved this area so much that we are considering it to be our winter home in a few years (as we went home to temps in the mid 20's).

Room Tip: End units, not along main road, mountain view and depending what time of year you travel we asked fo...

We arrived on a Saturday evening. Woke to a nice day. Noticed a few ants in our closet but did not think it was anything. Went for a walk and during the walk my wife started to get ant bites. 20 or 30 of them. Went back to the room. My wife was miserable for 2 weeks. Management refunded 3 days but I had asked for a full refund. They sprayed the room and deck which was crawling with ants. It was a terrible experience and management handled it poorly.

We stayed at DSV I a couple of weeks ago. We had never been to this property before and were very impressed. Our building (and most buildings I think) had a 8 units (sixteen counting the lockoffs) and they are located right on the fairway of the golf course. Our unit had nice views of the mountains as well. We were only in the suite part of the unit. The lockoff is accessed from a common door to the outside but is a separate unit. The suite was well appointed with a separate bedroom with a king bed and a lounge chair. It also has the bathtub and one of the bathroom sinks in the bedroom, kind of strange but we also had that at a different Marriott property. The living room had another lounge chair and a corner sofa unit with a sleeper in one section. There was also a nice flat screen tv with a DVD player (there were no instructions so it took me a minute to figure that the dvd was set for HDMI input 2). The property has a few pools. There is a large pool complex that has a couple of large hot tubs, a kiddy pool and 3 other pools. There was also a bar/snack stand that had OK food. There was a "quiet pool" a few buildings away from us and we went there several times. It was nice, but was overrun with ducks. There were cute until we saw the mess they made in the pool and on the deck. I wouldn't get in the water because of all the poop in it and you had to be pretty careful walking around. We found that being right on the golf course had a big downside. Before 7 every morning there was a crew out mowing or edging. That was pretty frustrating. The activity presentation they did on Monday morning was better than I expected. We got a good discount on a desert jeep tour. We went over to the JW to eat a couple of times, it was nice having the resort so close. DSV is pretty close to the commercial area of Palm Desert so there was shopping, eating and movies close by.

Desert Springs Villas I are some of the most spacious timeshare properties in the Marriott system. Being attached to the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort and Spa provide a nice option for hotel stays, if one prefers a more homey and private stay with all of the resort benefits!

Be aware that this property has BOTH Villas I and Villas II! Villas I are a few years older than Villas II but offer much larger units (approx. 1600 sf), with step-down living rooms with fireplaces!
Fully equipped kitchens and W/D are part of the 1-BR and fully 2-BR units. Good news is that the units are being refurbished with new carpeting and furnishings in more subtle and warm colors.

The Villas are gated and offer a few Clubhouses, 7 pools, small but efficient workout rooms, free weekday USA Today at the Clubhouse. Small mini-mart at clubhouses. Various activities (some for fees, others free) are also offered on a daily basis.

Pluses:
1- Feels more like a 'second home' than a hotel stay
2- Great option for guest who need multiple rooms. Let's everyone stay together and get the bonus of a full kitchen, W/D, large living room and dining table for 6!
3- Parking is short walk from the unit (and there is no charge)
4- Large patio/balcony with table, chairs, and chaise
5- Villas I (NOT Villas II) offers complimentary hotel spa access M-F. (Great deal! A savings of several hundred dollars for a party of 4 over the course of the week!!!!)
6- Discount card offers discounts for hotel services and amenities (and some local restaurants too)

Minuses:
1- Because of the large units and timeshare element, there can be a lot of families. So, if you prefer to be away from kids and noise, stay away from most of the pools. Use the spa benefit and use the spa pool (no children allowed)!
2- Although there is a full kitchen, be aware that you may not have all the necessary kitchen needs to cook fully meals as you would at home. There were no mixing bowls, small fry pan, hand mixer, roasting pan, etc.
3- If you plan to cook, you should plan ahead. Remember the basics: salt, pepper, sugar, etc.
4- Housekeeping on this recent visit proved lacking in that there were no kitchen dish towels, dish cloths, and pot holders and additional plastic garbage bags for under kitchen sink garbage can. Also, no face cloths in the master bath (should have been 4).
Needed to call the front desk to get these items delivered.

If you stay at the Villas I and decide to do cooking, there is a large Ralph's grocery store just across the street from Hotel on Cook and Country Club.

The shuttle service is convenient and offers all day service throughout the Villas property and to the main hotel and spa.

Note: If you are flying into Palm Springs and not getting a car, be aware that your taxi ride will be about $50 one way

Room Tip: If you are reserving a 2-BR unit, the end units offer better views and balconies for the 2nd bedroom...

We had a great 2 bedroom corner Villa. Spacious, clean, we'll equipped. Villas are adjacent to the main Marriott Desert Springs hotel. Easy walk or shuttle to the Marriott Hotel. Free use of hotel facilities during the weekdays. Many options for pools scattered through the property - 7 in total. Villa was well laid out. Would definitely go back.

Room Tip: Many but not all buildings back on to the golf course. Bldgs A -E or F back on to a narrow fairway...
