My husband and I are new to Palm Desert and decided to make a reservation at Jillian's for a romantic fine dining experience. Our reservations were at 8:00. All started well with a nice glass of Prosecco in the bar along with soft piano music in the background. We were seated around 8:00 and James introduced himself as our waiter. He told us the offerings for the night, basically a prix fixe menu, though the price was not shown. We told him we would have a glass of white wine to start to go with our appetizer and salad and then have a bottle of red with our rack of lamb. After the white wine was served we waited about 20 minutes for bread and another 30 minutes for the appetizer. So 50 minutes had passed, our glass of white wine was long gone, the bottle of red never arrived, hence no wine to go with our appetizer. The appetizers, an overcooked shrimp with a dollop of coleslaw? a "plop" of a seemingly microwaved lasagna and an absolutely horrible thick rubbery blini with inexpensive fish roe on top. Another 20 minutes go by and our salad arrives, the lobster is ok but the dressing is not evenly distributed and when served to us the plates were almost dropped on our table with a hard bang. At this point, we asked about our red wine. A few minutes later 2 glasses arrive, not a bottle like we requested. More minutes pass and the bottle finally arrives. We are now about 1:30 into the meal. My rack of lamb was cooked properly, medium rare, my husband's rack was closer to rare and all was cold. We were asked if everything was ok and we said "no" and explained about the lamb, wine and poor service. The gentleman that came to the table said we could send the lamb back, at this point it was pointless. What was amazing is the gentleman told us he had a painting business on the side and asked if we were thinking of doing any renovation. He gave us a pen with his painting business information. What were his true interests? Dessert was next, all unremarkable. Our bill comes $340 and that was supposedly with one rack of lamb removed. We will never go back.
