“Bar service was very good”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2012

As usual, we just sit in the bar for appetizers and 'refreshments'.
Our server was fantastic but I was a bit disappointed with the quality of the food. We ordered a filet sandwich which didn't have much meat and it was on bread that didn't seem fresh baked. The side of steak fries was from a frozen source. For a group like Morton's I would have thought the items would be fresh-made. I would go back for drinks but not to dine.

“Excellent Happy Hour”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2012

We were not disappointed with the happy hour at Morton's. The sirloin sliders were outstanding and a bargain at $7. We also had the crab cakes which were delicious and I had some raw oysters on the half shell. Very fresh too. Drinks were great, $6 or so during happy hour for premium drinks. The sirloin tips that passed by looked great as did the large plates of fressh potato chips. Good, friendly service and the place was busy by 5pm. A decent "high end" happy hour in a city with a lot of choices.

“New Ownership Shows”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2012

Sometitmes, it helps in writing a review to have not frequented a place for awhile, as the absence makes changes more evident. Such was the case yesterday at Morton's, in Palm Desert, California.

We've been wintering in the desert for fifteen years, or more, and have been to Morton's on every visit. On this trip, we had cocktails at the bar, which, thankfully, finally stocks a good rye whiskey (ri)1. The bar men, Wally, David and Mike are welcoming and, at happy hour, the place is a lot of fun. Oysters on the half shell (Blue Points) at the bar were excellent, cold, nice size and fresh. Our dining experience, however, was where the impact of a change of ownership really showed.

Salads (Morton's and Ceasar) were cold and crisp, but no longer exceptional. The veal chop (done medium) was good, though not hot when served. My New York Strip was ordered medium rare, and it was served tepid and medium well. Billed as a 17-ounce steak on the menu, the portion simply was not what Morton's used to serve...a full 18-ounce sizzler AFTER it came out of the oven. The spour cream mashed potatoes were good, and hot. The prices were what you would expect, but $57 for a steak of that quality simply wasn't appropriate.

So, the formula for the new owners was not difficult to grasp. Charge more, deliver less quality and hope to live off of the old Morton's reputation for as long as possible. We'll be back, but only for happy hour.

“New Bar”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2012

I love ALL Mortons, but this one is great. It is always packed, which I like because that says how great it is. They remember you by name and make you feel welcome. The new bar is beautiful and I almost didn't want to sit at a table last time I was there because the bar is so fun. Highly recommend.

“Always a treat !”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2012 via mobile

Warm personal welcome, already by the valet Julien. The hostess from Sri Lanka was most pleasant.I am glad they do not do the food presentation anymore. Crab cakes excellent, chunky moist crab meat well presented. New York Strip perfectly done as ordered. Nice selection of wine by the class with interesting samples like the Duckhorn "Paraduxx". Great service by Cindy and the waiters. a Greta evening.
