“Yes but.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2012

This was our third time at Shadow Ridge. My big bugbear, after many years at the Westin Mission Hills, is that the Bareques are communal and involve a good hike from most units, rather than being on our own balcony. They are also older units that take 20 minutes to heat up and they cool down in 5 minutes. The lighting is also lousy. This may seem a small thing, but when you are alone trying to do justice to a nice Prime cut with a very sub-prime barbecue and are away from the unit for 40 minutes to cook a steak, it gets to you after a while. The rooms are pretty good. We have had o bedroom and lock offs and they are both not bad, of their types. Certainly the lock offs are a huge amount better than thos at the Marriott Desert Springs.

We booked a room close to the adult pool and got a middle floor room in the 2800 block, very close by. The check in clerk was keen to point ths out and we were very pleased. What was not pointed it was that 2 days later thy closed it for maintenance and the next pool was a fair hike away. Nice humour, but not my style.

Room Tip: Buildings 2700, 2800, 2900 are ideal for the adult pool. However, make sure it is open!

“Great hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2012

We stayed at this hotel because we traded our timeshare through Interval International. We had a one bedroom and it was during the week of Thanksgiving. The hotel was great. The staff there couldn't have been any nicer and more accommodating. We purposely were close to the Kids' Club and the kids' pool because we had our grandchildren with us. They had so much fun and have asked if we can go again next year. I give an extra praise to Jessica in the Kids' Club. That can't be an easy place to work but every day she was there with her smile and readiness to help any kid with whatever craft they were doing. Thank you.

Room Tip: If you have kids with you, definitely ask to be near the Kids' Club. If you don't have kids...

“Shoebox Room”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2012

I arrived after a 9.5 hour drive throught the Sierra and my original room, bought off of CL had been sold to someone else since I was 80 minutes late due to detours. This was a vacation club owner who didn't need the villa's second bedroom. It was 8 pm and I was exhausted, so I booked a room at the governement employee rate. The room was awful; a shoebox size that smelled sour. There was a big hair/dust ball outside the door and the building was just messy: cracked cement walkways, dirty luggagae carts and gravel in the hallways. I was booked in an unfinished building that was rarely rented to guests. The coffee maker was dirty, there were no coffee cups and when I unfolded the bath towel, a long hair was stuck in the fold. I went to bed. However, the heater/AC kept on blowing hot then cold air. I had to turn it off. The next morning, I spoke with the Vacation Club manager. Marriot claims that they have nothing to do with these vacation club owners and scolded me: I should not shop on CL. He said Marriot does not monitor the dispersal of their rooms. I pointed out that since the Marriot name is used as the selling point for this, they are indirectly and directly responsable. He said, "no we aren't." I realized I was dealing with a person whose sole interest was protecting his badge. I next went to the front desk to tell them about the dismal state of my room and I was immediately asked why I did not call the front desk at night. I told the man that I was exhausted and did not want to deal with anyone that late at night. I was given a 30 minute extension on check-out. I go back to my room and promptly at noon, a manager calls at asks if I will be checking out at one because "I want to check that we are on the same page." I have never, in all of my years of traveling to different countries and staying in all types of places, from 5 star to a simple room, been treated with such insencerity. Granted, Marriot cannot control what this owner did: however, they should invstigate and keep an eye on their property. They can control the state of the property and the cleanliness of the rooms. When errors happen, they need to be sincere and practice cutomer service. Oh, the WiFi is horrible and the business room computer doesn't work.

Room Tip: Stay elsewhere!

“Our Own Private Oasis”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2012 via mobile

We stayed here for a week on our honeymoon. Terrific location with a fully furnished villa, including a fireplace. Pools were blissful and great setting on golf course with many activities. We loved the ability to rent movies from the resort's store and had full privacy. Must have a car to get around. Only negative is complexities related to wireless internet, but to be completely honest you do not need it because you want to be outside to explore and enjoy all that the desert has to offer. Very close to Bristol Farms market for high end provisions. AAA+

“A Fantastic Thanksgiving Vacation!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2012

We just stayed here over Thanksgiving week and had a great time. We come to the desert often and book Getaway Weeks using our Interval International membership. We have stayed at the Marriott Desert Springs Villas and the Westin Desert Willow recently and our family agreed that the Marriott Shadow Ridge has been the best by far. The pool has a water slide that the kids really enjoy (my 5 year old was not tall enough to use the water slide at the Westin so she was thrilled to be able to use it here!), they have 2 splash pads and baby pools at the 2 main pools which are great for little kids. The Activity Center is a DREAM for kids. They have a movie theater with free movies and popcorn, and a jam-packed schedule full of kids and adult activities all day long, a few parks, putting course, basketball courts, tennis courts, etc. Your kids will flip out when they see this place. The rooms are brand new and all very nicely appointed. We actually loved the pull-out bed here because its like a memory foam so its much more comfortable than the springy ones. The staff here has been very welcoming and kind. The a/c works perfectly and the room we had in the 1200 building was very quiet and nice. We never heard a single neighbor at night. My only disappointments were the WiFi was spotty all week, the Nick Faldo Restaurant on property was not so hot, and the jacuzzi at the pool was brimming with foam and grey water (they did not properly chlorinate or maintain the water). Aside from that - this was a fantastic vacation. We really loved this resort and will definitely be staying here in the future.
