Amazing setting in desert-like surroundings for giraffes and other exotic animals. The volunteers keep this event in glorious order.....WOW!!!!

“Wild Lights is a hoot!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2013

During the holidays the Living Desert park is festooned with more than a million lights. It's quite spectacular with entertainment on the outdoor stage, a carousel for the children and wood-burning cauldrons throughout for a spot of warmth in the desert night. Wild Lights is worth the visit, although the entrance fee of $10 (no senior discounts) is a tad on the high side.

“Caring for animals”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2013

They care for animals. I like this place because it helps animals who would otherwise die if they weren't here.

“Still awesome on our second time going!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2013

We took the bus to Palm Desert and then took a cab up the hill to the zoo ($9 each way). Sadly we thought that if we went to the zoo in the late afternoon, the christmas lights in the evening would be included, but we were sad to find out that they were not... so sad.

But the zoo was still great, and the chance to ride a camel for $5 per person was great!

“Liked it at night, AND by daylight!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 25, 2013

Last year we went to the Living Desert to see the holiday lights and really enjoyed the visit. So this year, when we were in the area again, we went back for " the day." It was a little further from Palm Springs than I planned for, so instead of arriving at 9 am we arrived at 9:30 am, in time to see the 10 am Giraffe Feeding. I knew the schedule from their website: http://www.livingdesert.org/daily_schedule.html. We also really wanted to see the Wild Life Show, so did those two things first. I didn't realize that they had a shuttle that was VERY popular, to help get you around the park. It seemed that everyone was buying and enjoying the shuttle, but since we had the whole day to spend and definitely need the exercise, we explored by foot. We even took the little hike to the San Andreas Fault Exhibit. This is a "hike" into the wilderness. When walking that way we met two women who had just completed the entire Wilderness Loop. They had started at Park Opening and were just getting back. I was pretty impressed but they admitted that they had not taken enough water and had gotten a little sunburned even with protection, so be advised. I believe that they had purchased a membership so they could come back as many times as they wanted during the year and this would be a nice and safe place to hike. We were able to see many of the animals because the weather was just cooling down, and the plants were also beautiful. We saw a strange lizard, I recall that it was called a Skink or something like that. Got a lot of close up pictures. We really enjoyed our day and would recommend reviewing the on line info and making a day of it with a plan before you go!
