“Great place to visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

We've visited the zoo twice in the last 3 years - while in town visiting family. We have a 6 and a 3 year old. It's well worth a visit. The Zoo is clean and very family-friendly. They have wagons that you can use for a suggested $3 donation - recommended for the youngsters - a lot of walking. Definitely go first thing in the morning to beat the heat and crowds - and to see the animals while they're more active. Volunteers were there to share interesting information about the animals and wildlife. We packed a lunch, got our hand stamped, and went to the car to eat/take a break. My 6-year old is very into trains and loved the train exhibit.

“Natural habitat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

The Living Desert Reserve is a lovely low keyed place to visit while you are in the desert to appreciate even better your desert surroundings. It is fun for children because of all the wildlife they tastefully present. I like wandering around and noting the names of so many of the local plants. They have a lovely hiking trail that begins in a wash and gives you a wonderful view of the desert from the ridges you climb up.
For those unable to make the walk, there is an open air tram available where a guide gives you a pleasant narrative of the area around you. It can be warm, but there are water fountains everywhere. I always bring water, sunscreen and a broad brimmed hat.

“Desert nature in all it's awe-inspiring beauty...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013 via mobile

Really a must see when visiting the Palm Springs area. Volunteers that have warm and charming demeanors greet you and welcome you to explore this very accessible zoo. Rife with foliage and scattered exhibits from meerkats to reptiles, you can discover on foot or via the tram (worth the per person fee). Don't miss the reptile show to learn fact from myth, where you can also grab food at the nearby cafe. The nature center is also worth a visit for some indoor nature demonstrations and hands on activities. Consider buying the annual pass if you plan to return to the area - $100 gets a family+ access for a year- good for out of town families with younger children. Be sure to bring bottles water to avoid a stop and paying a premium. Explore discover and enjoy!

“Great family visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

Great place to take the kids and see the animals. Be sure to schedule your visit and a time you are comfortable walking outside in our desert weather, really most times are good except the summer. If you go early in the morning you could do it in the summer.

“Enjoyable Afternoon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

As this was our first trip to the desert we wanted to experience all that it had to offer. We originally planned on about a 1 1/2 hr. time frame but ended up staying for 4 hours as it was much larger than anticipated and was lots to see. This attraction is very well looked after with well marked walking trails among the various exhibits. While it is easily walkable there is a shuttle train <like a 'Hop On Hop Off> which would be quite useful for those not able to walk around. We found the different vegetation areas most interesting as we reside in a completely different climate. The animal enclosures were quite expansive and certainly well attended to. Staff were very professional and friendly to talk with. Certainly an attraction well worth visiting for sure!
