Let's start with the two good things of this hotel:

1. location right on the beach (all rooms have sea view)
2. pool, hot tub and free internet

The rest of this place has some problems:

Rooms:
I asked for "new" room upon check-in and was told that all rooms have same decor. However we got one of the remaining (?) "not fully remodeled" rooms:
- the leather chair was totally worn and the furniture partly broken.
- However bathroom and windows looked like having been replaced 2 years ago (as she told us).
- on the wall was a remote control to set temperature but when I set is to 65 F the room was heated after we returned? NO AC!
- shower makes hell of noise (old pipes), also you can hear similar from your neighbours
- room doors from the 70ies (not noise proof enough and old lockings)

Hotel faciliites:
- open parking garage on 2 levels was very dirty (nobody takes care on cleaning this area)
- the aisles in section "C" (where our room was) looked like from the 70ies and never replaced (old rotten carpet, wallpaper loose)
- in the staiways it stinks urine and garbage is everywhere (nobody took care for 2 nights we stayed there)
- the pipes on garage ceiling and stairways are not protected against the salty water which is in the air here: loss of rust and oxidation!
- screws at the building start to corrode (visual defect)
- towels at pool were missing
- Bathrobes as advertised were missing in room (on request only)
- offered fruits at reception were expired (rotten orange)
- no guest laundry

All in all I'd say this hotel "lives" from its location on the beach:

The owners don't seem to be interested in keeping the hotel in good shape.I feel the official rates of $189 up (weekends much higher) is a very bad value refering to our overall hotel experience.

We got a nightly prepaid $95 rate (incl. taxes) at alpharooms.com (TUI Travel UK via local agent hotel-beds USA), however this deal seems to be discontinued!!!

in a nutshell: NOT recommended because of poor value (with official rates and general hotel premises in such a bad shape)

Check the Holiday Inn Express next door, similar rates but seems to be the nicer and better deal (+BF&Laundry included)

We enjoyed our stay, we wanted somewhere out of the city to stay at night to get away from the noise and all the people. We had a very nice room with a good amount of bathroom/counter space. Room had a fridge in the room. We also had a small ocean view with a standard room. Our room had a huge deck and we enjoyed sitting outside on the deck furniture in the evening in blankets listening to the ocean. We had a rental car, it was a short easy drive to the park and ride BART station in Colma to head in to the city. The place is a bit of a maze though with three different buildings that are all connect via different elevators that are accessible on different floors. Overall though we enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others.

Had to plug our noses to walk to our room because it smelled awful in the hallway, the Jr. Suite room was dark, stunk and had a cup full of rotten cigarette butts on the balcony, views look out to the roof and of the pool area which was torn up and lined with barricade tape. Dirty mattresses were stacked in the parking garage. It looked like a prison. Don't be fooled by the great web photos. The place is a run down dump. We drove over 1000 miles to enjoy our stay in the closest beach front hotel to San Francisco. I planned this trip months in advance. I can't believe the Best Western people certify this property. Thank goodness we found a real first class place to stay in Half Moon Bay a few miles south.

We had a cove view room and we loved it. We could hear the waves and it was wonderful. I was grateful for the free internet since the other hotels we stayed at charged us for internet useage. It was wonderful.

San Francisco Bay Area

I booked this hotel on the Best Western web site and paid for a "full ocean view" room. Well, mostly. My room was on the 4th floor, and I definitely had a view of the ocean, but I was also overlooking the roof of the hotel restaurant. It looked like there were in fact a few rooms right on the ocean, but I don't know how to book those specifically.

The room was quite comfortable. It had a king bed, a good-sized desk, comfortable desk chair, and lounge chair / ottoman. Medium-sized, I would say. There was enough lighting. Clothing storage space was a bit tight. I liked the layout of the bathroom area - there was a long counter with one sink and plenty of room to spread toiletries out. The counter and sink were outside the room with the toilet and bathtub. This works better when people are sharing the room.

The bathtub was a reasonable size and the shower curtain was made of fabric that didn't stick to you when you were trying to shower.

There was a fridge, which worked fine. No microwave. No air conditioning, but I saw a note that you could request a fan.

There was a 'standing room only' balcony outside the room. It adjoined the neighboring balconies, and because I left my windows open, noise from those balconies came into my room. The sound of the ocean also came into my room.

The pool and hot tub were nice. I was irritated that the pool was closed for part of my stay. They were doing an upgrade to the pool area. Why couldn't they have scheduled the upgrade during the off-season? On the bright side, the pool reopened sooner than scheduled.

The housekeeping person appeared at a different time each day, but never when I had the "Do not disturb" sign posted.

I didn't use room service or the hotel restaurant.

The elevators were very slow and creaky.

I would stay at this hotel again.
