“despite shortcomings,good ocean front value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012 via mobile

I had already been warned from fellow mass traveler and this site about lack of onsite amenities and renovations,,so the following waasnt a surprise: hole in bath ceiling from old water leaks in ceiling,no one at desk to check in for 5 minutes (SIGN POSTED),common areas wide open so securitty consists of two 20 yr old female desk clerks and cameras(this is low crime area but plenty of transients due to two surfing beaches and apt. bldg next dr,indoor pool left wide open 24 hrs a day (appreciate the access but is insurance carrier aware of sign asking for door to be left wide open)....Despite bar and restaurant closed ,several dining options nearby via car or on foot.Linda Mar plaza has plentty of stores and i recommend GORILLA BBQ,Vallemar Station and A taqueria all five minute drive on PCH north next to an excellant market with superior beer n wine selection. Two other markets downtown on way to halff moon bay..Surfers paradise with two beaches packed with wave catchers plus less than 30 minutes ffroom San Mateo and 45 from SF........Excellant prices comparable to Pacifica motor inn but much bigger rooms that all feature views and in room jacuzzis.\Fireplaces defective but hvvac worked fine and fans in bathrooms always appreciated.|Only better hotels arre Best Western & HI Express onn Rockaway Beach which are much more expensive.....Id return-there were plenty of mustangs, cooamarros,& vettes in lot which show that facility doesnt attract lowlifes--although sign warning against parties in rooms may indicate weekend problems.

GOOD THINGS:
Hotel overlooking the ocean in Pacifica California.

NOT SO GOOD THINGS:
Decisions, Decisions, let me see where to start?
The room was a disappointment, the level of disrepair was only exceeded by level of neglect as towards maintenance.
Both, the in room chair and love seat had stains on them.
The Hot tub in room Jacuzzi, was improperly sized for the room it took 1/3 of the rooms floor space.
Fireplaces were shut down, the Heated pool shut down, the restaurant was shut down, wow must be some new "theme hotel" idea being tried out.
There was a balcony that would have been nice to sit on and look at the ocean, but no furniture.
The room was dirty, and I do not mean the kind of recent dirt one sees when a area is generally clean , and has just missed a daily cleaning recently.
I mean the kind of ongoing ground in dirt you see along the base boards, in the corners, and on the door stiles.
Painted over mold in the bathroom and chipping of plaster in the room
The TV remote would turn the set on, and that's it. No volume control, no channel changing, I mean what's a man to do, get up walk over and change the channel by hand.
Took the remote downstairs to clerk at the desk, she gave me another controller, this one would not work at all. Gave up and read a book, and had a couple of toddies.
Very small shower, and there is no dresser in the room.
It's almost like someone builds a lot of seaside condo's using the cheapest material he could find , and when the market flopped.
Says hay! I will recouped my money by doing a little remodeling and sell it as a sea side hotel to a lot of unsuspecting tourists.
The Continental breakfast in this joint was an embarrassment to the very concept.
I mean come on - PEOPLE.
Packaged Danish from an older Canteen dispenser at the Texaco gas station.
OH Yes... they also had the cheap type of pastries, you know the little 25 cent size muffins still in the plastic trays. Powdered creamer, not quite fresh fruit, bananas green or very mellow yellow with age spots, and lest not forget the watery coffee. This place could not even keep up with the cheap type of spreads you see at the Motel 6.

Room Tip: Here is a tip, do not waste your money. Stay some were else...................

I've stayed here twice now, both times I enjoyed my time like crazy. They had a nice list of delivery places both times I got my favorite Chinese food, Rice N Roll. LOVE THEIR FOOD! Free delivery's a plus. Anyways back to the hotel review. The Jacuzzi was wonderful. Odd placement in the rooms but I enjoyed it never the less. I would definitely stay here a third time.

Room Tip: Ask for the Full ocean view or Deluxe Rooms

This hotel could be fabulous with only a little work. They are renovating so maybe it will come. It was the little things that needed attention. Our fireplace did not work. We were in the turret with windows all around and the drapes were shabbily hung and did not quite close so there were all these gaps. There was no strike plate on the door to the suite, the bath tissue holder kept falling apart. The TV remote did change channels but did not work for power on or off. The windows did open but needed to be propped with something if you wanted them to stay open. However the room was clean, the bed was comfortable and we really enjoyed the jacuzzi tub. The views were fabulous and the location to the beach could not be better. It has easy access to San Francisco or the south coast and there are plenty of restaurants in the area. I would stay there again.

Room Tip: A partial view works well but I would specify balcony suite.

The rooms were disappointing. Needs lots of attention. Very small shower. Fireplace out of order. Below average breakfast. A few restaurants within walking distance which was good because the restaurant on property was closed. Great location, across the street from the beach.

Room Tip: Make sure you do not have one of the many large lampposts shining directly in your room. mine was (2...

We made advance reservations for 5 nights to use this hotel as our base for the last part of a month long west coast trip. Our large room had a view of the ocean and a large jacuzzi, which we put to good use. Furnishings were dated but clean and restful. The front desk staff were always smiling and extremely helpful. ( They recommeded High Tides across the street..great breakfast and lunches!) Breakfast was very basic with no area so usually brought coffee, fruit, yogurt back to room. No laundry facility. Excellent value and no parking charges. (Owners should not park their Mercedes in handicapped spots.) Was great to walk the beach at sunset and watch the fog roll in!

Room Tip: Higher rooms have better views
