“decent value on the monterey peninsula”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2013

outstanding location near the lighthouse on the tip of the peninsula. very quiet neighborhood with almost no traffic, no sidewalks and almost a country feeling. slightly off the main road and away from the tourist car and walking traffic. ideal if you want little peace and quiet. we saw deer grazing across the street. 5 minute walk to the beach for spectacular sunsets. recommend for a romantic get away. property a little dated, and looks like a renovated motel, but it's clean, and there's helpful barbara at the front desk. would return without a doubt.

We very much enjoyed our stay at Sunset Inn. The furnishings were very nice, the amenities were excellent--what I would have expected at a higher end hotel. Great coffee, nicely appointed bathrooms, shutters that cut out noise, very clean wood floors, and a fireplace. And all at a very affordable price.
The Inn is within walking distance of the ocean and not far from downtown Pacific Grove. It's in a quiet, wooded neighborhood without a sense of being a commercial property. We hope to stay there again in the future.

We were looking for a place to stay in Pacific Grove for a quick stop down the coast. Staff was friendly, the rooms are small, but cozy. It felt like we were staying in a friend's guest room. Updated bathroom fixtures and clean, Although the room was a little stuffy, it was easy to air out. It's a quick walk to the shore. No frills, but suited our needs well.

My girlfriend and I stayed here one weekend while we were driving through the area. And I have to say this wasn't our first thought for a place to stay but we are glad we found it. It's a bit off the beaten track but the place is a cut above any other inn around the area. The rooms are amazing with some great charm.

This must have been our fifth stay at the Inn. This weekend (March 15 & 16, 2013) we paid $175 a night. The little breakfast they used to serve has been discontinued. Sunday morning 7:15 a.m. office closed - no coffee and juice available. Tiny little piece of soap on sink (no bath soap). Noisy refrigerator and heater in room. Broken bathroom window. Difficult to operate shower mixing valve. We're getting far less for more money during this stay. Our last at this property, I'm sure.

Room Tip: Plenty of options elsewhere in the Monterey area

We loved our overnight stay at this lovely little cottage style inn. We enjoyed the private jacuzzi tub, fireplace, HD TV and charming over-all atmosphere. The proprietor was very helpful when recommending places to eat and things to do while in the area. We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: ask for a room with a Jacuzzi tub, they are very nice with good working jets and the water from the...

We stayed at the Sunset Inn late lastyear. When we went to take a shower there was a used bar of soap caked with hair, used shampoo bottles, and a dirty washcloth in the shower. We cleaned up the mess and let Barbara in the office know. She was very apologetic and said she would apply a credit to our account. Unfortunately, all talk - no action. The credit never appeared, even after several emails to her.
