“Favorite place to stay in my favorite place in the world”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

I LOVE THIS PLACE! I have stayed here for years every time I visit Pacific Grove and cannot imagine staying anywhere else. It is just a block from the beach which is perfect. The rooms are always extremely clean and well kept, and the sitting area is warm and inviting. There are homemade cookies available throughout the day, and at 4:30 pm they offer afternoon tea. Breakfast is from 8:30-10:00 and is always a treat. This visit we enjoyed an artichoke and roasted red pepper strata with country potatoes....so delicious!! There were also delicious homemade apricot muffins that were tender and full of flavor. There is a nicely landscaped outdoor area, with a firepit and a waterfall. I highly recommend this bed and breakfast to anyone who is visiting the area...you won't be disappointed!

We stayed at the Old St. Angela 3 nights the end of March. We actually stayed in 3 different rooms. We had reserved the Nantucket for 2 nights, but changed our plans & asked if they had anything for the 3rd night (on Easter weekend). She did have a cancellation so it worked for us. For our first night Diane upgraded us to a larger room on the second floor (the Bayview) and it had a view of the ocean. The Bayview had a fireplace which we did not use. The beds in all 3 rooms were very comfortable with nice quality linens and comforters. Everything was impeccably clean. The Bayview & Nantucket both had jacuzzi tubs, but I could not get the control to function and turn it on. Each room is decorated with a different charming design and color scheme. We got to peep in the Whale Watch room which was my favorite but also the most costly and another room upstairs that was also large and had a view. Our second night was spent in the Nantucket room which is downstairs next to the breakfast area, but we did not hear a sound from the kitchen or any other guests. The Nantucket was a smaller, but we usually go for the economy in our travels as we are out and about so much we don't benefit much from the larger rooms with views, fireplaces, etc. I must say that we will probably splurge & stay in the Whale Watch room next time. It also had a private balcony with seating and a table that looked out to the ocean. Our 3rd night was in the very small Lands End room which opens to the garden. The bath was very tiny with a corner sink located outside the bathroom and only the toilet and shower fit into the actual bathroom. It worked for us, but others might be cramped in here especially if you actually stay and read in your room during the day.

Every breakfast was outstanding. They had homemade yogurt and granola, fresh mixed fruit, homemade muffins, bagels, bread, and English muffins for toasting (with homemade raspberry jam). These were in addition to the entree served each morning. We had croissant french toast with raspberry sauce one morning, and a Mexican stratta and homecooked potatoes another day, followed by the croissant french toast this time with a strawberry sauce on the 3rd day. Breakfast was served in the lovely sunroom room with a view of the garden. It was a little chilly on our trip but one day was warmer and 2 couples ate outside. Every day cookies (2 types) are available, and in the evening when you come in there is a dessert like brownies or lemon squares awaiting you. From 4:30-6:00 it is afternoon tea time with wine and some snacks like cheese and crackers and a Mexican 7 layer dip & another homemade dip with chips. We missed tea time one day when we were down at Big Sur. The garden is lovely with lots of flowers blooming, brick walking paths, and a relaxing waterfall.

Diane was very helpful and pleasant. She seems to love her job, and she adds so many special touches around like the orchids in the living room area and the dining room where tea time is served. There are lots of books to read in the living room with comfortable seating as well as some brochures on local sights. This really felt like a home away from home.

My husband and I always play the name your top 5 things you liked about the trip on the way home from the airport when we return home. On this trip we did Monterey, Carmel,Big Sur, San Francisco, Muir Woods, and Point Reyes Lighthouse. Both of us put staying at the Old St. Angela and walking down on the coastal walk (just a block away) as our # 1 from this trip. We will definitely return to the Old St. Angela Inn.

Room Tip: Rooms listed as small are indeed small. The best rooms do cost more, but they are definitely worth...

Our family truly enjoyed our stay at the Old St. Angela Inn. The Inn has been very well maintained; the rooms were super comfortable. Diane's breakfasts were outstanding with an artichoke frittata the first morning and strawberry croissant french toast the next. No one in our family went hungry. They serve cookies all day, and afternoon wine if you are interested. It was a little chilly while we were there, but we did manage to sit in the gardens one afternoon. Beautiful plantings, a firepit and water garden. The InnKeepers are very gracious.

The Old St Angela Inn is a cozy and charming bed and breakfast. Comfortable and nicely decorated rooms, a wonderful garden, excellent breakfast in the morning. Only a block from the ocean where you can walk along the beautiful rugged coast line. A real gem.

We stayed here for our anniversary in September...total last minute & boy it was awesome the Inn Keepers are so nice & friendly took very good care of us & all the goodies & food were yummy. We had a greaden view room on the bottom floor & it was so nice & cozy. We hung out in the graden by the gas fire pit & just enjoyed the calm quiet morning taking it all in. We were only there for the night but plan to return so.

Our first impression when we arrived at this B&B was its coziness. Just a short walk from the bustling town and beaches, make this place so convenient but peaceful. Room was comfortable, and the fireplace make us feel at home. Breakfast was great, and our son was looking forward to the surprise on the next meal! During our stay, the living room was so crowded during the afternoon tea, so we just grab our snack and headed to our room.
If asked whether we would stay here again, the answer would be YES!

B&Bs can be hit or miss propositions - you never really know what you're going to get until you arrive. So it was a great experience to find a place that exceeded our expectations in most respects. The room was large, well-furnished and very comfortable. Some of the rooms have great views of Monterey Bay. The breakfast was perfectly prepare from scratch and filling. They served a snack with wine at 4:30 and had coffee/tea/cookies available all day long. Our hosts were helpful and attentive to our needs and questions. The parlor was also large and comfortable. I put myself up there for a couple hours while my wife went shopping nearby in Monterey (only a few minutes away). I even found a good book to read on the shelves. Only two, very minor negatives. The bathroom in our room was very small - not missing any functionality, just small. And the bed's comfort level was only so-so, but since I am prejudiced by an incomparably comfortable bed at home, my ratings of hotel beds are not to be trusted. As with any first class B&B in a popular area, the price is a bit on the high side, but definitely worth it for a one-night getaway.
