Stayed here while attending a conference at the Asilomar conference grounds across the road.

Friendly and helpful staff. Check in and check out was a breeze. The wine and cheese in the evenings was a nice touch; had a couple of yarns with some other travellers, very social. Breakfast was more than adequate. Lovely surrounds, could often see deer or squirrels about. Standard DIY laundry facility came in handy. Four quarters for a wash and three for a dry. Detergent sachets were supplied. In-room amenities include popcorn (which I didn't use) and a coffee dripolator (which I did). Would have been nice to have more than one caffeinated coffee bag per day though. Wireless internet available. Signal was low but I had almost no problems with it.

My only caveat would be to confirm the complaints of noise made by some other respondents. The room above mine had squeaky floorboards and I could tell exactly where the occupant was at any point in time, such was the volume. The outside stairs were also squeaky and loud. The hot water service for my block appeared to be right next to my bathroom; Whenever anyone took a shower there was a screaming noise emanating from my bathroom. Thankfully the occurrence of these noises was few and far between, and being a light sleeper I tend to sleep with earplugs in place which blocked out most of the noise.

All up, a lovely place to stay. I would stay here again given the opportunity and I recommend it to anyone else. But be warned, you WILL need earplugs.

My husband and I greatly enjoyed our stay at the Pacific Gardens Inn in late October. We rented one of their mini-suites. Its complete kitchen was adequately stocked with dishes and utensils, except it was missing a can opener. We prepared all our own meals and they supplied everything necessary for cleaning up. There was a nice eating area with a small table and chairs. A nice sitting area with TV and fireplace in addition to a comfortable bed in the bedroom. This is not "The Ritz" but everything was clean, comfortable and quite suitable for us simple-livers.
The continental breakfast was basic with two cereals, three or four types of breads, cream cheese, OJ, coffee and tea. Fresh fruit was always available. We did not check out their afternoon wine and cheese offerings.
We walked across the street and through the Asilomar conference grounds to get to a wondrous stretch of beach with miles of walking. It was a short drive to other interesting sites, including the grove where thousands of Monarchs spend the winter. Hundreds had already arrived for us to gawk at. We frequented an excellent coffee shop downtown plus a good market with a real meat counter.
We recommend this inn.

My wife and I visit the Monterey area two or three times a year and always enjoy our stay at Pacific Gardens Inn. It is a great location with access to the Asilomar and ocean trails, beaches, restaurants, the Aquarium, and golf courses. It is in a wooded, almost residential, setting a distance from the more touristy Monterey area motels. The prices are reasonable, the rooms comfortable and clean, the grounds nicely landscaped, and the owners and staff make you feel at home. I almost want to keep the place a secret except that I think the secret is already out.

Older place but well kept with large rooms. Popcorn popper in room! First time for that. Great spread for breakfast in a very comfortable common room, and wine and cheeses in the early evening. The owners have a knack for hiring VERY competent, intelligent people. Highly recommend.
