We wanted to stay right on the ocean and you do exactly that at this Motel. We stayed on the upper floor in the front of the hotel (which we would recommend) and watching the sun come up over the ocean each morning from the landing chairs outside our room was great. The room was fine sizewise and clean and the bed was comfy. The toilet did back up as we were leaving and the bathroom overall did look like it needed some work and that is why we've given it 3 rather than 4. You can be picky but if like us you just wanted a room to sleep in as you were out exploring all day then it was fine and the location was great for its views and for exploring Monterey and Carmel area. I can recommend this time of year as the carpet of pink and other spring flowers makes it very pretty.

My family stayed in a two bedroom hotel room at the Borg's. I have to say that you cannot beat the location. We throughly enjoyed staying right across the street from one of the best beaches on the Monterey Peninsula. When we arrived at the hotel the gentleman at the front desk introduced himself,quickly checked us in and asked if I needed a map fo the area. The room was "quaint" and seemed clean but because we had two bedrooms, each of them seemed very small. It was nice to have one bedroom for me and my husband and one for the children. The bathroom was ok ,but again, a little small. We were happy until the people staying above us returned to their room. The walls are THIN. I could hear our neighbors use the restroom and when they flushed their toilets I thought there would be a wave of water crashing over my head. When we visit Monterey, our hotel is a place for us to rest our heads so the location made up for it's shortcomings, but bring earplugs for a truly restful night's sleep.

I loved this hotel by the water!!! We stayed in the ocean view room and the sound of the ocean was so relaxing. The only flaws were that you can hear people in the rooms around you and the rooms are small, but you can overlook the flaws because the view from your window is beautiful!!! I would definitely recommend this hotel to couples. The fact that you can walk across the street and walk the trail to lovers point is very romantic!!! We definitely will revisit!!!

For all of you folks who NEED a fancy motel to make your vacation perfect, the Borg is definately NOT for you. But, for anyone who would prefer to spend your money on daytime activities, good food, and souveniers, the Borg just might be your kind of place.

The motel has been operating for at least +30 years. I remember it being there when I was stationed in Monterey in the '70s. The look of it has changed very little - the accomodations continue to be sparten but clean. The staff is very pleasant and helpful.

You can't beat stepping outside your door in the morning with a cup of coffee, sitting in your deck chair and watching the fog move out over the ocean. And sunsets are unbelievable! There is a totally unobstructed view of the ocean; which, I might add, none of the more expensive fancy hotels, motel or bed & breakfast's in the area can lay claim to. What else would anyone want from a room on the ocean?

The prices are great for the location, and I personally hope that the Borg continues to be an undiscovered treasure for those of us who appreciate a great deal with a FANTASTIC view!
