I've been on a road trip for over a month, and have driven Hwy 1 from Washington, which I've never done before, so I wasn't sure of travel time to make reservations in advance for this part of the trip. I called Borg's on Saturday morning for a room for one night on my way to Morro Bay. Frank was very nice and helpful, explaining that they only had one available room- -a two bedroom with no ocean view. After checking other area hotels, I was glad to get a room. The hotel is unashamedly old school, with its pros and cons. The best of the gracious service of the past. The staff was delightful and helpful, sharing restaurant recommendations and discounts. The parking is plentiful, and the ice machine works. The rooms are dated, but charmingly so (the tiles in the bathroom are REAL, not retro.) The location is lovely. I've paid a lot more for more "modern" hotels that weren't this welcoming.
