Four of us stayed here for a long weekend at the end of September. My husband & I had cottage 101 & our friends had cottage 104. The cottages were fabulous. Ours had a slider that led to a porch/patio area that overlooked Asilomar Ave. Can you say Cocktails on the Patio? On Thursday night while we were cocktailing, a doe and her fawn came right up onto the property to graze. And later that night, a buck with large antlers stopped right in front of the office and stared at us for awhile and then lept away!

The staff was great and the grounds are beautiful. There was a funk odor in the air, but that was due to the City of Pacific Grove trying to eliminate the ice plants that have over run the indigenous plant life.

While the guys went scuba diving on Saturday morning, I sat outside reading my book and enjoying the tranquility and the continental breakfast that is included (bagel w/cream cheese & coffee). The doe & fawn returned for more grazing - I am amazed at how close they came to where I was sitting. My friend joined me later & once the guys returned from diving, we all headed to a lovely italian restaurant called Matteo's. Lunch was fabulous.

Another fun aspect of the property is that they allow dogs. We saw all kinds of puppies during our stay. We are already planning to visit Bide-A-Wee again.

Pacific Grove is a charming little town near the better-known towns of Carmel and Monterey. Its features include a beautiful, rocky coast rich with tide pools; a butterfly sanctuary; and nice lodgings that tend to be a little cheaper than neighboring towns. The Bide-A-Wee is one such motel.

The Monterey area tends to be much friendlier toward dog owners than other vacation destinations. It was easy to find lodgings that would take the two dogs we had with us, but I chose the Bide-A-Wee for its close proximity to the beach (easy walking distance), relative affordability, and good reviews on Trip Advisor.

We had room 105, which had a bedroom with a TV, a kitchen that included a stove and microwave, kitchen table and chairs, a second bed and TV in the living area, and a fireplace. The fireplace was in a rather strange place; right across from the sink! There was no couch, but that was okay; we just used the bed in the quasi living room. The TVs do not have DVD players or VCRs. There is cable.

While it's true that the walls are somewhat thin, we seemed to have quiet neighbors. There were a lot of people with dogs, which was nice (though it made our puppies woof when they heard them outside...d'oh). The Bide-A-Wee has a little path/outside area with tables and "Mutt Mitts" to pick up after your dog. The staff was very nice. The have a continental breakfast in the office, but we didn't check it out.

The room was very clean and thoughtfully appointed. They included a toaster, dishes, cutlery, a few pots and other cooking utensils. Two large supermarkets are about a 15 minute drive away.

The property is quite lovely, with lush grass and flowers. The beach is a few blocks away. You can drive to Monterey in about 10 minutes and to Carmel in about 20. Carmel in particular has a gorgeous, white sanded off-leash beach and lots of dog friendly businesses--including restaurants! We took our puppies to PortaBella and they were incredibly nice to us.

All in all, I recommend the Bide-A-Wee. It's not fancy, but it's a comfortable place to stay for those traveling with their puppies.

I like the Bide-A-Wee and it was recommended from my friend; however, I must have received the worst room (#114). The neighbor in #115 made so much noice that I could hear all the partying and it continued past 11pm everynight. That room is fine, but nothing special and the breakfast is bare minimum. The day staff were awesome and incredibly helpful; however, I found the evening staff to be nonexistant when dealing with my noisy neighbors in #115.

I am traveling back to Monterey this week; however, I will not be staying at the Bide-A-Wee.

Do take into consideration that my friend loves this place and they stay here whenever they visit. Maybe I visited at a bad time, but it was bad enough that I won't return.

Inn was Ok, clean and spacious. Staff friendly and good Internet. Price is a bit over average but Monterey is expensive.
