We stayed in a single-room suite at the Andril Cottages for about a week in May. We had a very positive experience all around, and would definitely recommend this for a quiet, homey destination. The cottage included a sitting room/bedroom combo, bathroom (including shower and tub combo), a full eat-in kitchen, and an outdoor patio. The furnishings had been updated since the website pictures, which was a pleasant surprise. The cottage was wonderfully clean, the beds were solid, but the emphasis overall was on function rather than style. The grounds were impeccably maintained and included picnic tables and wooden lounge chairs scattered about, a hot tub, a ping pong table, a hammock, a tether ball game, and visiting dogs - all of which amused our 8 year old immensely. This is a family-run establishment, and the owners are friendly and very helpful - and keep a well-stocked dvd collection for guest use. We loved the location - somewhat out of the way, close to a beautiful beach, and easily accessible to Monterey, Carmel, and Point Lobos. Pacific Grove itself has some great little restaurants and a couple grocery store options for stocking the kitchen. The drawback, to the area, however, is the weather - we saw very little sun despite this being one of the "best" weather months to visit. Nonetheless, we would highly recommend both Pacific Grove and the delightful Andril Cottages.

Our family of four stayed at Andril Fireplace Cottages for two short days earlier this month. Coming from torrential rain and then snow in Yosemite, we were pleasantly surprised at our clean, cozy, and complete 2 bedroom/1 bath/full kitchen cottage. We loved spreading out and relaxing in the living room. The kitchen facilitiies were great. The quiet location and short walk to a beautiful beach was the perfect environment for us. The grounds are excellently maintained. We didn't want to leave. We are already thinking of when we might go back.

We stayed at Andril Fireplace Cottages for 2 nights and loved it. We had a 2 BR, 2 BA cottage and it was perfect for our family of 4. The cottages are spacious and kept as clean as a whistle. The location is great - across the street from the Asilomar State Beach. You can walk right down to a wonderful beach complete with tide pools (a 7 minute walk for us). The Fishwife Restaurant is w/in easy walking distance of Andril, and we had an absolutely great dinner there.

The weather was dreary with a lot of rain, but that was a good excuse to use the fireplace (which worked great). On the second night, my husband and I ran out on an errand and when we came back, our 2 teenage sons were enjoying a DVD (great selection in the rental office - free!) and popcorn in the cozy family room, warmed up by the fireplace. The facility is quiet and peaceful - we slept well.

My only suggestion is laundry facilities. Before coming to Pacific Grove, we had hiked through a muddy Muir Woods forest and we had some clothes to wash. It would have been nice to be able to use a washer & dryer while there, although there is a laundromat that we used in Pacific Grove and it was fine.

After Pacific Grove, we drove to Yosemite and stayed in the lodge there, which is a dreary version of a Days Inn. This was a tough transition for us, after the Andril cottage! My sons kept pining away for the accomodations at Andril.

I can very much recommend Andril's for its peaceful location, location, location CLOSE to the ocean, but not far from the happenings in PG/Monterey/Carmel.
I didn't realize it would look so church-campy, and I/we could not get the fireplace to work without setting off the smoke alarm, but it was otherwise a nice home away from home.

My only serious disappointment was that the reservation policy (at that time (Feb. 2003) or time of year?) made things easy for the management but lousy for me, their welcome (?) guest, when they would not allow ANY thing but stays in 7-day increments. You could stay 7, 14, 21 days, etc., but no combination in between was allowed, which meant I got "thrown out" after 7 days during my 11-day visit to the area. It was no major tragedy/hardship, there are LOTS of nice places to stay in the area, but that 7-days-only policy certainly did not conform to my definitions of "warm hospitality" or "customer-friendly".

Again, maybe it was the time of year, or the policy made it understandably easier to weed out too-numerous reservations ("Nope, only by the week!"), but I found it overly inflexible and unwelcoming. I see others mentioning 3 and 4-day stays since then, so I can't explain the discrepancy. Perhaps the policy has been changed, or maybe it was my solo/1st-time guest status, no idea.

In short, if Andril's Cottages are less rigid next time, I will gladly return.
