“Pacific Grove Charm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2013

If you prefer cozy charm over sleek, cold modernism, then I can recommend Gosby House Inn. The room (11) was warm on a chilly day. There is a fireplace and it was a delight to wake up in a comfortable bed to sun shining through a small stained glass window. After a fabulous breakfast buffet, we returned to the little balcony off our room for a cup of tea and a book. The Four Sisters Inns take food seriously and we were provided, in addition to the breakfast, with afternoon wine, savories and sweets, and evening Port and desert in the lounge. Within a short walking distance, there are the tide-pools and beach at Lover's point, where you can see Hermit crabs, otters, and surfers. Just a block or two away, there is the Natural History Museum, which we really enjoyed. In another direction, just a block away, we had dinner at the popular Passionfish Restaurant. From the staff at Gosby House, to the waitress at Passionfish, to the curator at the Museum, to the clerk at the hardware store, the people we encountered in Pacific Grove were friendly and welcoming. It was a great, peaceful break from the drudgery of work. I will go back again someday.

We chose to stay in Pacific Grove based on some friends' advice that it is typically cheaper to stay there than in Carmel or Monterey, but just minutes from both! We chose this property based on other reviews, and were very happy with our stay! The rooms are very comfortable, and we especially loved the Victorian authenticity of the entire inn...but with spacious, modern bathrooms! Both our rooms had fireplaces, too! The beach and plenty of great restaurants are within a block or two. The thing we liked best was the amazing food provided at the inn throughout the day...delicious full breakfasts, a wide array of appetizers, sweets, and wine in the afternoons, dessert and Sherry at night, and coffee, tea and soft drinks at any hour! We would definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: You can look at the bedrooms on-line, and you can call and ask about the layout of each to make sure...

Four Sisters Hotels operates this B&B and their high standards are visible. We stayed in the Jack's Leap room which is above a detached garage. The room was very comfortable and luxurious. There is a private balconey with views of the town and some of the bay. It is a little more than a mile walk to Cannery Row and the Aquarium. It is a very easy walk and will take about 15 minutes giving you the opportunity to see the houses and stores on the way. The bay is a much shorter walk of 4 blocks. The aquarium is $35 and is good for two days. The Inn sells the tickets. The breakfast is very classy with fresh fruit, juice, oatmeal, daily rotating egg dishes, and breads. They make the muffins on premise and they are very good. There are afternoon appetizers which are excellant along with wine. In the evening, there are home made cookies and brandy. This was a great B&B to stay. Look for special rates during the off season. I would stay away from the pizza restaurant across the street due to food handling issues. Around the corner there is a place called Fandangos. We stopped for drinks and wished we had dinner there. It appeared to be a nice, bustling higher end place to eat. The dishes looked terrific. 17 mile drive is a must. "The Bench" restaurant at Pebble Beach golf course was excellent with great views of the 18th.

My husband and I just needed a change of scenery - and this is just what we hoped for and more. Our room was cute, clean and comfortable. The young woman at the desk was exceptional. She spent time explaining the Inn's history and places to go in Pacific Grove. We live about one hour North and just spent the two days walking and exploring Pacific Grove. The Inn features a delicious and complete morning breakfast and a delightful wine and snacks buffet from 4 to 6 each night. I would definately recommend this to our friends.

Room Tip: Book early so you can have larger room than "Flora".

The pay for one night get the second night free was a great deal. The location was good. With in walking distance of very good restaurants and the ocean. The room had french doors that led to the bathroom. The Jetted tub was very nice, enough room for two. The food was good. Over all a nice get away.

Discovered it by chance over 3 years ago, love to go off season, check their websites for deals...buy one get one night free, 30% off 3 night stay etc...each room is different...,check website for details...
The Gosby reminds me of B and B's that i used to go to with my parents when i was a child, with old antiques and a slightly run-down/lived in/being at home feel; if you want fancy go the one of the fancy ones overlooking the ocean, with the sparkling chandeliers and glossy antiques - i visited them and found them stuffy and not able to relax fully...
The Gosby is like visiting your favorite cousin, who doesn't have the finest of the fine, but makes you feel at home, you can relax, and be at peace...the staff are fantastic, so helpful, breakfast brilliant, all freshly cooked, a nice touch are the freshly baked nibbles and wine at cocktail time, where you can meet other residents - all very friendly - and at night, you let yourself in, and can have some sherry and nibbles and sit by the Xmas tree...they know me so well that they trust me to turn off the Xmas music before i retire for the night...
I can't say enough nice things about this place... and if you go in December, you'll meet the chatty Scottish redhead, who has a wealth of knowledge on the area and seems to know everyone...LOVE IT!

Room Tip: Holman is the largest i've stayed in; small balcony, fireplace, with 2 chairs, tub and shower an...

The Gosby House is located in the heart of Pacific Grove, walking distance to many restaurants and shops, the ocean and about a mile walk to cannery row.
The Inn is warm and clean with a friendly staff. Our room was number 3 at the top of front stairs.
The room had a nice gas fireplace with windows looking out the front and side. Our bed was a soft but had a great night sleep. Breakfast was basic with fresh fruit, bread and cereals, and an egg dish. Evenings they had wine and cheese and late evenings they had some sherry with dessert.
Since the Inn is located in the center of Pacific Grove and not on the ocean the prices on very reasonble. I have stayed at the sister location the Green Gables and the views were brilliant as the ocean waves would put you to sleep but at a cost. With the money we saved staying at the Gosby House it help pay for dinner.
If I were from another country or lived far from Monterey I would recommend you stay at the Green Gables for a night to get that view then move to the Gosby Inn
