“Front desk staff members need training. Badly.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2006

I'd recommend staying away from this place. The staff members need some training in customer service (e.g. don't bicker with one another in front of the customer) and how to tell whether or not you're giving someone a key to a room that's already occupied. You know, so that when she attempts to enter "her" room, she doesn't end up opening the door on a large angry man yelling from the bed.

If you are happy to be allocated a room with broken a/c, then another room, around 4pm, leave your open case in the room (after turning down the bed)and then return to it @ 9.30 pm to find another couple (undressed)in YOUR bed with YOUR belongings still in the room, then book this motel! Incredible??? It happened to us late Sept05.

Front desk unable to cope with problem or potential outcome of opening door in dark to find what we did. Manager was raised from sleep who at least took some accountability for staff members actions, and allocated us another room and refunded our $79. BUT no sleep, too busy wondering whether unhappy lothario would seek us out in the dark/whether anything was missing from our case contents/ whether we would meet him/them in the morning.

AS far as we could tell nothing had been taken nor did we meet the occupants again but a complaint to Vagabond Inns Customer Relations resulted in hearing clerk had been 'reprimanded' and we were offered a voucher (expiring in 1 year) for a free night in a Vagabond Inn.

Difficult to justify a flight of 5000 miles each way for a different experience to this, our first time in Vagabond Inns. Thesauraus defines Vagabond as 'vagrant, tramp, drifter, beggar'. As none of these apply to us, or our friends, reputable travellers will need to make up their own minds whether this type of establishment deserves their business in future.

We chose this motel as a place to overnight on our way to San Diego after riding Amtrak's Coast Starlight from Salinas. The train was scheduled to arrive in Oxnard at 7 p.m., but due to numerous delays we didn't reach Oxnard until 2 a.m.! I won't rant about Amtrak here, but if you're interested to can search on Coast Starlight and read my comments about the train there. We called the motel to let them know we'd be arriving late and to make sure that they held our room. After our miserable train ride and a quick cab ride we were very pleased to be greeted by a cheerful front desk clerk who checked us in without a hitch.

We were dead tired upon arrival and we greatly appreciated that the room was clean and quiet. We had to get up early the next morning to catch the train to San Diego (which was ONLY an hour late) so we didn't get to experience much of the motel. I did notice a nice looking pool area on the way out, however.

I won't be headed back to Oxnard any time soon so I can't say that I'll stay here again, but I'd recommend this place for a short stay or as an overnight stop if you're driving up or down the coast.

I stayed here because on of the other hotels was sold out. The front desk clerk was really friendly, and my room was good, the tv was big and they have a lot of channels.
I would stay here again if I am ever in Oxnard again!

We unfortunetly cut our stay short due to the Roaches and Spiders. I didn't care if I paid for two nights. One night was too long! Please call an exterminator.

I stayed at this hotel a few years ago and wasn't very impressed, but as it was convenient, decided to stay again this trip. GOOD NEWS, every room has been newly renovated. They added micro/frige's, put granite counter tops, etc. Much nicer than last time.

Was worried about the remarks but couldn't beat the location so decided to toss the dice. I found the hotel very clean with no major problems. The breakfast could have been better but it was free. Overall a worthwhile choice for Oxnard.
