“Mediocre Accomodations - Not Very Clean”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2007

We just returned from a family trip to California where we stayed at 3 different hotels. The Courtyard Marriott in Oxnard was definitely our least favorite. The rooms were very large (we think this may have been a Residence Inn previously) with lots of closet space and big bathrooms (separate shower and bathtub). However, my daughter wanted to take a bath, but decided against it because "the tub was filthy." She even tried to rinse it out, but couldn't get it clean enough to feel comfortable using it. The hotel could definitely use some updating (the shower grout looked bad and the overall look of the hotel was a bit run down). We did have our own patio which overlooked the pool area, which was nice. We booked via Priceline, so the cost wasn't too bad, but for the quality of the hotel, I don't feel the money was well spent (we paid just a bit more for the other two hotels we stayed at during our trip, and they were far nicer). But for me, a dirty bathroom ruins the stay, so I wouldn't recommend it.

I would definitely stay at this hotel again! Friendly staff, attractive and comfy rooms, and the pool and hot tub are inviting. It’s in a wonderful location: right off the 101 freeway it’s just a hope, skip, and a jump to Ventura beaches. The Esplanade Shopping Center is also conveniently located near the hotel; this shopping center has a little bit of everything from restaurants to a variety of stores. My family and I truly enjoyed our stay at the Courtyard by Marriott Oxnard! By the way we paid $50 a night through Priceline “Name Your Own Price.”

It’s an older property, but fairly well kept. Staff is good, housekeeping adequate. It’s in a fairly nice area close to several restaurants and other shopping.

Always stay here when on business in the area and is perfect for that .. ..

Not a terrific place if you are on vacation, though - Beaches are not close and there is not much to do in the immediate vicinity .. .. But, if you are looking for a quieter spot where you can get some work done, this is the place!!

Room/Bed is fabulous (as all Marriott's) with a large worktable .. ..

Pool & Jacuzzi are typical and nothing out of the ordinary .. ..

Best feature to me is their business center which now has 2 high-sped computers/printers to use and one is always open .. ..

Again, you are located in a business park so it gets very quiet on the weekends .. .. For food, there is a BAKERS SQUARE a 5-minute walk away which will put you right on a major street that has a TARGET, STAPLES, etc. just further down .. ..

A GREAT PLACE IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A QUIET PLACE TO WORK!!

  • Liked — Location & Business Center .. ..
  • Disliked — Nothing - I've been here before and it's PERFECT for what I need to do!!

I read the reviews on TripAdvisor before I booked this hotel. It had decent ratings and I was looking forward to the usual courtyard experience. You kind of know what to expect. This hotel turned out to be better than expected. It is a high rise- which is a little unusual for a courtyard so I suspect it was someother franchise chain before it became a Courtyard by Marriott. It is also a little difficult to find late at night because the board in the little street parallel to the shopping area doesnt really help. You have to follow the street around the corner and then it is suddenly there. You dont see it right away from the street though you can see it from the freeway because there are other high rises in the area.

2. Yes it overlooks the freeway but the rooms are quiet on the side that faces away from the freeway. It looks out over a residential area so expect inland views.

3. The lobby and reception areas are very well done up. The rooms themselves could do with an update. The beds are comfortable but not as firm as more modern properties.

4. The front desk staff were very courteous and efficient both at check in and check out.

5. The lobby has a nice seating area with coffee, tea and cocoa.

I had no time to check out the fitness room or the pool area but from the outside they both looked well maintained. The price was quite reasonable and if you are planning to be in the area for only a couple of nights, this will be just fine.

We stayed here three nights and heard no noise from the rooms on either side of us, even though they were occupied. The front desk gave us a room close to the elevator as we requested and on the pool side of the building so we didn't hear any freeway noise. We did hear the train a few blocks away a couple of time a night. The beds were very comfortable. The room is larger than some Courtyards as we heard it was previously a Radisson. We didn't use the restaurant or pool. They have a business center with two free computers that we used.
It is close to restaurants and shopping but not within walking distance. Parking is free and close to the hotel.
We would definitely stay here again, especially at the Hotwire price.

  • Liked — large room, quiet, comfortable bed
  • Disliked — hard to find from the freeway

We stayed here for a couple of nights to visit family in the area. We would stay here again because the location was very good for us. We had only positive experiences with the people that worked here. The pool area was nice. Breakfast was good. The room was clean and comfortable. It is not fancy, but I felt the quality and service were typical of Courtyard by Marriott or other hotels of that class.
