“Fanastic Brazilian Place”

We love the family that runs it and the food. It is different and very tasty. We usually go with others so we can order various appetizers and entrees to share. Highly recommend you try it.

“Great Anniversary Dinner!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2012

Finally tried out Moqueca for an Anniversary celebration. The food was excellently prepared with generous portions and a nice ambience. Service is unhurried. They were slow to take our order and to bring the meals but they gave us a great Tapenade with bread while we waited for our meals. We also had the Quibes appetizer which was very good. We had the File De Peixe (fish with vegetables, rice and plantains). The entire meal was delicious. The fish tender, fresh and flavorful. The white rice was the best we ever had! very light in texture and fabulous flavor.
Had a glass of Pinot Grigio with the dinner and had their famous Passion Fruit Mousse, exquisite!

We saw several other tables order one of the Moquecas (Clay Pots) to share for two. They looked and smelled great so we plan to go back and try one ourselves.

Dinner was about 2 1/2 hours. We enjoyed the harbor view from our window seats and it was nice to have a leisurely dinner not feeling rushed. Don't go if you are in a hurry. It will ruin your dining experience.

“Delicious and unique fare in a lovely setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2012

Five of us went to Moqueca to enjoy the savings of Oxnard's Restaurant Week. Moqueca offered a three-course meal for $20 that looked intriguing. We all ordered the potato-based soup, it was wonderful! I had a Xingo beer, a dark Brazilian type, drank it all and promptly ordered another one. The main course we ordered was a seafood clay pot dish, which could be had with shark, shrimp or mixed seafood, we ordered all three among the five of us. Again super delicious! Dessert was a mousse, passion-fruit or chocolate. Four of us had the passion-fruit, which was the perfect ending on the palate. Our waiter was the owner's son, in the US from Brazil for the past three years. He was very knowledgeable and gracious. The restaurant in on the Oxnard Harbor and the ambience is almost worthy of the food. A great evening!

“A great dining experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2012

Recently ate at Moqueca for the first time. I was a bit tentative as my dining tastes are pretty traditional. Four of us started with 2 appetizers and then shared 2 clay pot dinners - one with seafood (mahi, shrimp and octopus) and the other the "Bobo Camarao" with shrimp. The food was very good! The clay pots are enough for 2 to 3 people and are served so you can easily share them with others. Their drink selection was different - the wives tried the "skinny" drinks and us guys had several drinks made with machaca (?) - a Brazilian liquor.
Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu, the way the food was prepared and helped guide us through the extensive menu. The restaurant's menu is on the web, along with some good information about their style of cooking. We will definitely return!

“The moqueca was delicious!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2012

We ordered some salgados & mandioca frita for appetizers. They were okay, but the real treat was the main dish...we had the shrimp & fish moqueca and we loved it! The service was excellent!
