“We had a blast!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2005

We stayed at the hotel during the Easter weekend with 2 young children. I agreed with some of the reviewers that the hotel needs a facelift and I believe that it just started when we left. But we did not hear any construction noise and we were told that they would do the renovation floor by floor, wing by wing, with minimal discuption to its guests.

We also went to the show suite and was most impressed with what they are showing. Just the week before we were in Squaw, we were in the Westin Resort in Whistler and the show suite in Squaw compares extremely favourably with Westin. For all the techno guys out there. they are putting LCD flatscreen TVs in all the rooms after renovation.

We were there for 6 days and most of the people we came across assisted us with a smile. Most, except for one teenager at the ski ticket counter, were very helpful. We also went to the Easter Sunday egghunt and brunch buffet and were impressed with all the activities that they planned to keep our children happy. There was a magician, an artist, a seperate area with cartoons and party leaders to play with the kids throughout the brunch so that we adults would be able to enjoy the very generous buffet that they serve. And the food was good.

The hotel was busy when we were there, but the only time that we saw the crowd was at the pub during dinner time. Other than that, the hotel was big enough for us to not feel crowded.

All in all, our family had a terrific time and my children are already talking about going back again!

We stayed here from March 30-April 1

Based on the reviews, it was our second choice. The rates are on the high side and given the room and service other hotels at the Village will probably provide better value. But overall our stay at the hotel was ok.

I thought being detached from the Village will be inconvenient, but the Resort provided more peace and exclusivity. There was a fair amount of guests at that time; we were told that was because other ski destinations didn't have this much snow.

There's a fine dining restaurant serving Italian fusion...it was nothing great (taste vs. price). Food at the pub was ok, and the kids cooked smores over the fire just outside the pub.

The rooms are ordinary and the size was acceptable. We were 2 adults and 2 kids (ages 6 and 2) and we were comfortable.

They charge a "resort fee", so add USD 15 to the rate. This provides complimentary local calls and free shuttle to the Village (I guess it isn't free and complimentary). It is also supposed to provide free wireless internet access for the wireless adapter and the usage. But when I went down to the desk, the staff said I had to pay for renting the wireless adapter. Good thing I called before hand and the person said everything was provided at no charge. So the staff acted like he was doing me a favor by providing it for free.

Coming back? Maybe, but we'll probably try somewhere else to compare...

We saw this hotel last year when we were staying at the village at squaw. The lobby looked so beautiful, we thought we'd try it out this year. The lobby was the only beautiful part. The rooms were very modest, akin to Motel 6 with a granite bathroom counter. For $214/night (and we got a deal), I would never stay there again. Recommend The village at squaw, upscale 1 bed condos with way more ammenities/conveniences, clean and beautiful.
