“Great service & staff but WAY too many dogs”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2011

My husband, myself and our 2 teenagers stayed here for four nights over Christmas break. Despite a major blizzard and later a power outage on the mountain, the staff maintained their cool and gave us some of the best service we've ever had. The place is a little oddly laid out with the inside of the gym visible from the registration desk in the lobby. The food at the breakfast buffet was very good and plentiful but its placement in the cozy bar/cafe area more than a little cramped. We booked two rooms. The adults had a very quiet and comfortable second floor room while the kids got a very dark and noisy ground floor unit that the adults would have been very unhappy in. You'd better like dogs if you go there. Just after checking in we heard a large dog barking continuously from a room down the hall from us and we were VERY happy not to be near it. Mostly the dogs stayed near their masters and were no trouble, but if you have allergies, which we (thankfully) don't, one wonders while looking at the removable slip covers on the chairs in the room, how many dogs have slept in your bed and sat on your chairs. We love dogs, but not in our hotel rooms. The location, just across from the cable car, can't be beat.

At the beginning of 2011 we have redeveloped our dog friendly policy at the hotel. In order to reduce noise experienced we have designated specific dog rooms in certain wings of the property. As we move forward a total of 6 pets out of the 56 rooms will be allowed in the hotel at any given time. To reduce noise caused by pets we also ask that guests not leave their pups unattended in the room. This in turn will alleviate noise from barking dogs. We are excited to be one of the few hotels in the Lake Tahoe area to allow pets. Yet at the same time we really want to make certain that we manage the program well in order to accommodate all of our guests expectations at PlumpJack Squaw Valley Inn

I usually wrote about my "no so good experience" on this site. But PlumpJack is setting a nice new style and standard for Squaw. We stayed in the Village and Squaw Valley Inn which is either too much or too less. PlumpJack is just right. The room we booked did not have kitchen but the breakfast buffet were just right for me and my son 8 years old. It's right across street from the cable car run. As much as the fancy scene in Squaw Valley, this really complement well. Love this hotel. I wish they dont block the MLK weekend as they do. Would love to go visit again soon. Happy new year everyone!

The staff made every attempt to accommodate us during our stay for a family wedding this October. The bride had reserved a block of rooms, and despite our last minute reservation, the hotel still honored the rate and put us on a waiting list for an additional room for our son and his new wife. Shortly after, they called and told us the other room was available...we had plenty of time to cancel the other reservation we had made across the street without penalty.

When we first arrived, we noticed an annoying notice outside our window...called the front desk and they were on it immediately. Within minutes the front desk fellow was outside with two other guys climbing on the roof across the way to investigate the problem...using flashlights in a pouring rain. The desk guy, John got back to us within 1/2 hour. Turned out to be a noisy fan belt from the restaurant kitchen that could not be repaired until morning. John offered us several other rooms away from the noise, and a bellman to move our luggage. However, once we were assured that the noise would cease once the kitchen shut down and that the problem would be fixed first thing in the morning, we decided to stay in our cozy room. Sure enough, the repairman were out at 8AM, (or before,) the next morning and we were never bothered again.

I asked for extra pillows, extra towels, extra blankets, ice...No Problem!
All were delivered in minutes.

My son and his new wife were coming in from back East, arriving after midnight..the front desk staff was there and waiting for them when they arrived...and moved them into the room next to ours instead of the other side of the hotel...extra pillows, extra blankets, ice...No Problem!

During our stay, we chose to eat in the bar, the wait staff got to know us immediately and was very attentive throughout our stay...great place to hang out with friends, family or just to watch the games on the many conveniently located screens throughout the space. There is literally not a bad seat in the bar area, and the fire pit gives a nice warmth.

If you are a smoker, or occasional smoker every exit door has a covered alcove with boxes to dispose of your butts...it may be cold, but at least you can have a puff out of the rain or snow...not much different than stepping out on your friends back porch. Thoughtful, and much more convenient than any major hotel chain I have stayed at in recent years.

Shopping - Lot's of nice little stores around within walking distance, as well as the usual drugstores and supermarkets. However, if you suddenly find you need something like we did that you can't find in a CVS (in our case, a large capacity flash drive to download the wedding video we took,) Reno has every big box store, Best Buy, Borders, Barnes & Noble, etc. just a short 45mins, and beautiful drive away.

The rooms are clean, well appointed and the beds comfortable.
Spacious bathrooms with large glass enclosed showers, again very clean.
There are no closets, nor dressers...at least not in the three rooms I saw, there is a tall set of basket drawers, which in our four day stay we found more than adequate. An honor bar and a mini fridge were appreciated, but not used much. Ice is available from the bar...kind of a hassle, but the bar staff is quick.

I forgot to mention the complementary internet access...very easy access, but not much advertised in the hotel info. Just call the front desk for help on how to access the link.

Our rate was $155/day, plus tax and fees = $170...felt we got a good deal and had a super time at the Plumpjack...as a ski in/out resort, I imagine nothing could be finer for wintertime sports. For the summer, they have serious mountain biking, and lake sports. Nice heated pool area and two hot tubs...Whatever you like, you will be comfortable...and the complementary breakfast is outstanding.

I just returned from a 5 day stay at PlumpJack Squaw Valley. I have never been to Tahoe - and decided to go on the spur of the moment after seeing it on jetsetter.com. (love that website) I happen to love PlumpJack wine - and i did minimal research on the hotel - but i did check tripadvisor.com. My expectations were managed far below what we found. I did know to ask for the second floor. We had the fan on and therefore did not hear noise. There was a little street noise a couple mornings )aka a delivery truck drove by) by frankly nothing to fret about. The room was comfortable and a very good value if you ask me. I stay at Ritz Carlton properties more than any other hotel brand - and yes the rooms are fancier - marble baths double sinks etc - and they also cost more and the service is spotty at all of them.

I thought the service was fabulous the entire time i was there. I am in the financial service business - but my friend is in the hospitality business ( she is GM of a very exclusive city club). We both were amazed by the staff. It was little stuff that surprised me to the upside. my friend wanted bottled water for a hike and asked where a 7-11 or other convenience store was. The next thing we know is the girl from the front desk ran out and bought 4 bottles of the water she wanted - and put two in our mini bar.

The staff was just happy and peppy and eager to please. No I am not related to anyone there.

I loved the food - we ate there 3 of the 5 nights. My pal is a bit of a foodie - i just like good food that isnt swimming in butter and cream. We were both quite happy.

There is a review about earwigs on the wall - I dont believe that. If there was anything close to that i would have pitched a fit and left.

The only 2 things i didnt like is that the quality of the sheets is not so great - kind of scratchy. The pool was sort of small - but fortunately there were always chairs when we wanted them.

I would go back.

I have to admit, PlumpJack Squaw Valley Inn is truly THE best place to stay in Lake Tahoe. If you ever get a chance to get a reservation at the hotel and/or restaurant--DO NOT PASS UP THE OPPORTUNITY. The decor is fun, whimsical (as they put it), loungy, hip and romantic...a perfect getaway. The food in the bar and restaurant is top notch. And you will not find a better wine list in all the Sierra Nevada range! The entire staff is full of fantastic things to do in the area with their local knowledge of the best-of-the-best things to do than you will find with any concierge...just ask. What more could you ask for: the best skiing, the best hotel, the best staff, the best food, etc. etc. etc. (you get the picture folks, get to Tahoe!)

Seriously, I thank this group of true professionals for making each visit even more memorable than the last. Anyone who complains about not getting a seat, or temperatures, or this or that...truly does not respect what people go through to provide amazing service 24/7. Get over your egos and enjoy the mountains all while slumbering and dining in the number 1 hotel in Tahoe!

Thank you PJ!

The rooms are incredibly noisy. The plumbing sound like a jet engine. I know when the neighbors are showing or using the toilet. The restaurant and lounge noise leak awful. Earwigs crawling on the wall.

The hotel way overpriced... but this is Squaw Valley. Look elsewhere.

The location is brilliant, right next to the lifts and cable car. The hotel staff were very friendly and the hotel has a really nice feel to it. Whilst the rooms are spacious, there is not a huge amount of storage and you can hear every footstep from above - definitely ask to stay on the top floor. Service from the staff was excellent, althought the waiters in the formal restaurant weren't great - we tried the tasting menu and they didn't explain what we were eating. They also brought us the bill as soon as we'd finished and looked very surprised when we asked to order more e.g. coffees and grappa.

Overall great hotel and would definitely stay here again, just on the top floor instead!
