“A fabulous place for families. Can't wait to go back.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2011

We just returned from 3 nights there, and everything was as I had hoped it would be.

The valet was quick, courteous, and helpful. Check in was a breeze, and the concierge friendly and knowledgeable. Our room was one of the cheaper ones, and it was still plenty big -- around 550-600 sq ft. It has its own patio overlooking the goft course, and was nicely decorated in the hacienda style. The linens were superb! The mattress was great, and the pillows perfect. The towels were so great, I actually had to read the labels. Turned out they were made of bamboo! Imagine that. I'm going to have to go and look for some now. The turn down service each night was thoughtful, and they actually have bags to store the extra pillows, etc. I wish all hotels would do that.

Like others mentioned, the food here is pricey, and not that great, just good, but not great. Service was excellent though. The in-room coffee is probably the best in-room coffee I have ever had. It was one of those Keurig (sp?) machines with the individual pods, and the coffee tasted great. I used it every day as to avoid paying $8 for coffee at the restaurant. The town of Ojai is very quaint with plenty of places to eat, so that's what we ended up doing most of the time.

I found the spa prices a bit high, but not outrageous for what you get. My friend and I tried to book too late, so we couldn't get appointments, but did get to check out the spa and it was quite nice. We don't golf, so I can't comment, but we saw a lot of happy golfers.

The pools are fabulous. We spent most of the time at the family pool, and service was quite attentive. They have pool toys, floaties, etc for everyone to use. The food there is reasonable, so for sandwiches. etc, it's great. While we were there, they showed movies at the pool on Friday and Saturday nights, and they served free popcorn! Very nice touch.

We particularly enjoyed the bike trails. Bikes are rented at $5/each, so it's a steal. My only complaint is that the bikes do not have water holders.

Bottom line - it's a great place, but be prepared to pay. Bring lots of dollar bills for tipping because there is no self-service anything.

Room Tip: Avoid staying near a wedding party.

Took a quick weekend getaway up to Ojai. We were a bit wary as to how family friendly the place would be given that they emphasize golf and spa. Happily surprised at how accommodating the staff was throughout our stay. Check-in was fast, room was clean, quiet and nicely furnished. One could get lost wandering the grounds, expansive and absolutely beautiful. Kids will love the wild rabbits that we saw throughout our stay. We dined both at the Oak Cafe for breakfast and also tried out in-room dining. Both meals were fantastic, wide variety of food for the breakfast buffet and in-room dining was really, really good. I should add that when it was time for turn-down, housekeeping brought our daughter a cup specifically for her, it was a small gesture but greatly appreciated. One note for families, we arrived on Friday so we had a chance to experience the place on both a week day and a weekend and there's definitely a different ambiance between the two. Friday was slower paced, more tranquil, by Saturday morning, the clientele had changed, a lot of golfers speeding on their golf carts, double parking on the narrow roads as they loaded/unloaded their bags. Just be a bit more careful if you have little ones if you're walking on some of the paths that are adjacent to the roads.

Bottom line, would we stay again? Absolutely, in fact we are now in the early stages of planning a larger family winter getaway as we noticed they have adjacent rooms that share a common alcove/entrance.

We arrived on a Tuesday as our anniversary fell the following day. Valet parking and check in was extremely streamline and smooth. EVERY staff member was pleasantly helpful and always willing to help with directions or a lift to our destination. Food was great albeit pricey. The Herb Garden pool and it's staff were awesome. We were treated like royalty. I cannot praise the quality of service high enough for all of the employees who work here.
My only negative comments are regarding the $$$$$ of everything once you have arrived. $180 for a round of golf. $50 for a simple American breakfast for two. $115 to visit the alchemist. Spa prices are extreme. But, the experience is INCREDIBLE!!! So, if you want to solute and dig into your pockets for a great getaway....this is the place.

Room Tip: Visit during the week...not weekend if possible.

My husband and I stayed at the Ojai Valley Inn and Spa June 13th and 14th to celebrate our 30th anniversary. We flew from Tulsa, OK and started our 9-day trip in San Francisco and ended in LA. The stay at the OVI was so enjoyable and the service was amazing. The grounds are gorgeous and we spent a lot of our time on walks throughout the resort. We had our anniversary meal at Maravilla and the food/service were outstanding. We enjoyed the large balcony outside our room during the cooler evenings. I especially liked the bathroom amenities from the spa plus the nice-size soaking tub! The Keurig coffee maker in the room was very appreciated in the mornings. As a suggestion: A special amenity in the room would be nice for anyone celebrating a special occasion. We received champagne and chocolates in two other hotels in San Francisco and Carmel, plus a nice congratulations letter in one of those for a much less expensive rate. We did enjoy our stay, and I hope we can return again soon.

From the moment we arrived to the second we left, we were treated like royalty. The staff could not have been more helpful, friendly and accomodating. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous, the setting tranquil, the amenities, many. At the pools, we were greeted by the attendants, after choosing a spot, had towels draped over our chaises for us, and ice water poured.

Our golf clubs were wisked to the course and stored for us. Any time we wanted, the clubs were brought out on a cart, ready. My shoes were cleaned and shined. The golf staff knowledgeable and encouraging. The course a real treat - carved out of the oak hills, valleys and barrancas and wonderfully serene.

The rooms were large and very well appointed. We had a gorgeous suite, with a lovely patio overlooking the course and the mountains, and we spent many an evening enjoying the sunset, sipping a glass of wine. Delightful! My wife especially appreciated the vanity area, separate from the bathroom, which allowed each of us to get ready for the evenings activities at our own pace.

We enjoyed sitting by one of the many firepits at night and reminiscing about our day - then planning for the next. We loved having the use of the 3-speed bicycles and took full advantage. A wonderful stay! The only regret was that we hadn't planned to stay longer. Everything we had read and heard about OVI was true and more... A masterpiece!

We were looking for a place that would be relaxing, nice, a bit of luxury but also very family friendly for a weekend getaway, well this hit the spot.. A friend had highly recommended it as she is a spa lover like me and stated it was also family friendly.. Looking to get away for a quick weekend not too far . We went just 2 days and it did the trick. The area is very quaint and quiet, serene. The inn has a golf course if you are a golfer a great spa, and beautiful rooms and restaurants. We ate at the pub for lunch had the best Ice Tea Vodka Lemonade. We ate at the resorts steak house for dinner very goodl. all the restaurants were kid friendly. The pool was nice and they even had a putting area for the little ones. If the kids are old enough they even have a kids club. the grounds are beautiful to walk and they have a gorgeous herb garden. there is a new adult's only pool area which was very nice too. Highly suggest this place for a quick weekend getaway to rejuvenate.. I had the shangri-la treatment at the spa. amazing!!

I can't say enough about our mini-vacation in Southern California. The grounds abound with giant trees and imaginative plantings. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. Our bedroom looked out onto the golf course and mountains and was extremely well-decorated and comfortable. Just wandering the property was a treat - but there was lots more to offer - a snappy spa, several restaurants and the glorious setting - already mentioned. We hope to return!
