Description: A cafe-market-bakery-salad bar serving Mexican food using organic chiles, tomatoes and tomatillos grown at the farm. The tortillas are handmade and the sangria is topped with local Ojai citrus. Quite a few vegan, raw and gluten-free offerings; everything else is vegetarian. Lovely outdoor patio with a striped green awning and a view of the mountains.

“Great farmer, great cook!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013

Nothing really to add to the others great reviews, Olivia is a great cook and Steve is a great farmer. But since they changed the menu (a couple of years ago), there are not the same for me, I fill is a little expensive and the food is as exciting as it was before. Still, liked the raw cabbage tacos, very nicely dressed. And the mexican wedding cookies that are one of our favorites cookies ever.

“Hype.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2012

There is an air of birkenstock hipster (if not body odor), but what you really get is grossly overpriced food and produce. If a Sunday morning, hit the Farmer's Market for a very Ojai experience, tremendous selection of organic or not, more reasonable prices.

“Get salad bar & live your priorities”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2012

Big city restaurants have better decorations, furniture, and architecture than Farmer & the Cook. Most are cleaner, friendlier, better climate controlled, and have nicer bathrooms than Farmer & the Cook. But if you want an elegant, sterile experience, why are you in Ojai in the first place? Ojai has character because of ideas, values, and spirituality. The place nourishes to your soul. At Farmer & The Cook, the food is so fresh, tasty, nutritious, home grown, and infused with local character, that it makes up for everything else. It is locally owned and it serves food locally grown by the locally residing owners. Menu items and bread are too expensive, but if you get the salad bar, it is a decent value too.

“Rustic and Cold”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

We had heard many good things about this establishment, decided to give it a try this cold November morning. We actually sat outside to avoid the very cold temp on the inside. This is a no frills organic restaurant with very uninspired, but healthy dishes. The veggie burger was average, but the tortillas were great!

“Quirky place - wholesome food”

This place is a vegetarian's delight. Order at the counter and take a seat and the food is brought out to you.
