“The King of the Missions does not dissapoint”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2014

Take your time and enjoy the Mission grounds and the museum. The Church is amazing and filled with both items made here and brought from Europe. The "Ecce Homo" statue on the left side of the main altar should not be missed.
Stop and pray for a moment.
The cemetery has space to sit quietly and enjoy the silence and the shade.

“"The King of the Missions"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2014

The 8th of 21 California missions established by Franciscans. Founded on 13 June 1798 and named for King Louis IX of France, who led crusaders to the Holy Land. The mission's church completed in 1815 included a bell tower with 4 bells. In those early years, the primary work of the mission was a harvest of grains and growing of livestock. The herd
of horses, cows and sheep was over 20,000 animals, the largest of any
other mission in California. Today, the San Louis Rey parish, holds regular services along with retreats, workshops and events for a community of Oceanside.

“Relaxing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2014

We wanted to tour one of the Missions while out in California and chose the Mission San Luis Rey as it was one of the largest. Beautiful grounds, the people were very nice and the restoration was magnificent. Walking around was very peaceful (except that they were jackhammering for some construction) and we enjoyed the history of the mission.

“Worth visiting if close by”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2014

Nice old catholic mission. You can even attend a short Mass at noon. Worth seeing if you're close by. Otherwise, it's not an extraordinary experience. Neat views of the mountains, nice gardens, quick little museum.

“Great history!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2014

It's very close to downtown Oceanside and easy to get to. The old charm was so pleasurable as well as the new sanctuary for the service. Highly recommend.
