I stayed overnight prior to a 9:30 AM flight, and paid $98 AAA through the PriorityClub website. My request was for a quiet room, upper floor, away from the elevator. I was accommodated with the room on the 2nd floor which is the furthest from the elevator (280). The room faces the wall of an industrial building. The trade-off for the lack of view is a very quiet room. I didn’t need earplugs and am a light sleeper. Although this is the closest hotel to the airport, it’s almost a mile away and therefore not within walking distance (especially with luggage). It’s not within the flight path, so no problems with airport noise. The shuttle is “on demand,” and will take you anywhere within 3 miles, including the Coliseum BART station. I just missed the shuttle which was going to the BART station while I was on my way to the airport. The wait was only some 15 minutes.
The rooms are very modern and comfortable. I don’t think I got any particular upgrade for being Priority Club Platinum. The room was huge, with a separate area with a sofabed, fridge, and microwave. The bedding was very comfortable with high-quality sheets, and both soft and firm pillows automatically provided. Each room has two flat-screen TV’s (but not High Definition). The 2nd floor actually has a separate lounge area! Small gym with older equipment; the equipment looked older than the hotel! Large whirlpool with a lift for paraplegics, I suppose. No pool or restaurant. Breakfast was impressive; the quality at HIX’s and Hampton Inns seem to be going up in the last year. I guess they’re competing. I could not receive wireless internet in my room (the furthest from the lobby), but the wired connection worked great.
I’ll compare this hotel to the Hilton, which is a block away, and probably the other nicest hotel in the area (and closest to the airport). The Hilton definitely tops this hotel in terms of its gym (size and quality), the presence of a pool, and the presence of restaurants and sports bar (a guest at this HIX could easily walk to the Hilton, though). This HIX is better than the Hilton in terms of (1) Room size (2) Room comfort (i.e. flat-screen TV’s), and (3) Included amenities (internet, breakfast, parking, fridge, microwave). Also bear in mind that this HIX, but not the Hilton, will take you the BART station in addition to the airport. Both hotels are very nice and have their own limitations.

We stayed just one night before a flight out at 7am but would not have minded staying longer. Large room, comfortable bed, all of the bells and whistles that you hope to find in a hotel room. I have to agree with the other posters regarding the friendliness of the hotel staff. We heard a few footsteps above us but nothing extreme. I hope that our 4:30am wake up call didn't disturb anyone...the phone is loud. The location is also conveniently located just down the street from the rental car drop-off.

After making the huge mistake of thinking I could just find a decent place to stay in Oakland AFTER I got there, and after driving around for 45 minutes from Emeryville to Hegenberger Rd, I finally decided to head toward Oakland Airport in an act of total desperation. I was tired, and every place I called or stopped at was either a rat hole, or way overpriced and still on the fringes of not-so-great neighborhoods. I am not a snob, but I want to feel safe, and I have a very nice car that I want to be able to park in a lot without worrying that it would be vandalized or stolen.

I arrived exhausted to a very, very friendly front desk clerk who answered my questions quickly, advised me to avail myself of the complimentary breakfast if I had time, put me in a room very close to the elevator AND my car, informed me how to access the internet in my room (she saw the laptop hanging from my shoulder), and gave me a better rate than the rate quoted when I first walked in!!! What an angel!

My room was new, clean & even sported a flat screen tv. I have come to learn that business-oriented hotels are great for me because they have all the amenities anyone can ask for, and this place was no exception. I jumped into a very comfortable bed & had a wonderful night's sleep.

The next morning, I went down to my car to get something, and on the way every single housekeeper I encountered greeted me with a "hello" or "good morning", and when I went to breakfast it got even better. The folks tending to the breakfast area greeted me & let me know that if there was anything I needed I should let them know. Well, there wasn't much that was not included in the offerings......juice,milk, yogurt, cereal, fruit, muffins, rolls, bacon, eggs, sausage, buiscuts....you name it, it was all there. Oh, and I thought a particulary great feature was that the coffee cups in the rooms & at the buffet had travel lids. How nice to be able to take that cup of coffee with you on your way out the door without having to worry about spilling it everywhere!

So, on the way out the door, the guy who was cleaning the glass doors not only opened the door for me, but he wished me a good day & asked if I was leaving. When I answered yes, he thanked me for staying at the Holiday Inn Express. OK. When EVERY SINGLE person I encounter at a hotel greets me and wishes me well, I know someone is working very, very hard to make their establishment a better than good one. You can't help but notice from the little touches to the obvious ones that this is the kind of place that spoils you.

AWFUL mattress. We found the room to be very clean and the staff to be helpful. The shuttle drivers were prompt and courteous. I must say the KING bed that we had was absolutely awful. I am not picky about mattresses, but this was torture. I would be sure to ask for rooms w/ brand new mattresses! Very convenient to airport.

We had stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in 2005 and I agree that you can hear the people above you and in the rooms next to you. This visit (March 2008) the attendant booked us a room on the 3rd floor (much better) quiet, clean, and comfortable-a good basic hotel for our needs. We used this hotel for the park and fly $149 for the night and they allowed us to park for 7 nights at that price and $10 for each additional night we left our car. The hotel staff is beyond friendly and that has been a consistent theme on each of our visits. Keep up the good work. We will be back.
