“Easy walk to the ballpark”

Quality Inn Oakland

May 12, 2008

We had asked for a room on the second floor which we were given. The room, while not large, was clean and had a small refrig. Some of the furniture could stand to be replaced or reupholstered. The desk staff was friendly and helpful and the cookies at the desk were delicious! Very nice free breakfast. This hotel is only a 10 minute walk to McAfee Coliseum and there are other people going to the park during most of the walk so you aren't by yourself. This was a good choice for the price. Only drawbacks were the guy who emptied the dumpster about 4:30 am and the fact you can hear a train whistle not too far away.

“Quality Inn Oakland Airport”

Los Angeles

This is a basic overnight stay hotel near the airport and close proximity to Oracle Arena and McAfee Coliseum. I saw a number of airline personnel staying there.

My non-smoking single queen bedroom was neat and clean upon entrance. The A/C was in good working order, microwave, a refrigerator that actually worked, and coffee maker which were located next to bathroom sink and clothes rack. Maximum use of limited space. Shower bathtub and toilet was in separate room from the sink, and was clean with adjustable massage shower head. Toilet didn't flush properly unless you held the flushing handle down until it drained. Didn't bother to inform the hotel about this. Also had hairdryer, iron and ironing board.

The breakfast was better than other similar hotels in this price range with fresh fruit, juices, coffee/tea, waffle maker, bread, instant oatmeal, muffins, cereals, and cheese egg omelettes. An attendant was helpful, kept everything food items stocked, and clean.

Quality Inn is located among a cluster of similar hotels in an industrial area with a Walmart and many restaurants close-by including an In-N-Out. They are within walking distance but it is safer to drive, especially at night. There are either homeless or panhandlers hanging nearby the gas and convenient stores and will walk up to you seeking money. These stores open all night, but the doors are locked and the clerks inside get what you want through a security window. The hotel has a uniformed but unarmed security guard that patrols the parking lot at night.

They do have a pool and jacuzzi, included wireless access for your laptop, but you have to pay for internet time in the breakfast dining area, but they do allow free access to print your boarding pass.

Personnel was attentive and I required very little from them. Overall positive stay, except you won't feel safe after dark. The main reason to stay at this hotel is that it is inexpensive and close proximity to the airport, about a ten minute drive. I wouldn't stay here as a launching point to visit Oakland and the Bay Area.

    • Liked — Nearby the airport and still relatively quiet.
    • Disliked — You need the A/C fan on all night to circulate the air.

This hotel only had 2 stars and I was so pleasantly suprised to find the ammenities and condition so nice! The bedding was great with totally decent pillows and real comforter! The shower curtain was curved which made for a larger feel, the shower head was great with a massager, and the water pressure was very strong. There was a full length mirror, and a frige and a microwave! The maid did a excellent job the room was very clean! Best deal in oakland for the money that I have found and I have stayed a lot of places there. We got to stay there with our dog for a minimal $10.00 and we really appreciated being able to do that. I will stay there again!

“Good budget hotel”

This was on par with any good budget hotel I've stayed at. Check in was painless, room and bathroom were both clean, there were no extraneous noises, room temperature had good regulation (could be heated and cooled). For the price I would say it is a very good buy. The only negative is the neighborhood is not that great with a few homeless people pushing shopping carts around, but I walked around during the day and felt relatively safe. The BART station (Oakland Colosieum) is about a 15 minute walk. Overall I recommend this hotel.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — simplicity, no frills comfortable stay
    • Disliked — neighborhood is rundown

“Back for another 'Park-Sleep-Fly'”

As I said we would in my review dated Dec. 31, 2006, we checked in again for the "Park-Sleep-Fly" deal on August 31 of this year.

As before, we found the room clean and well-maintained despite its having seen some use. We got a quiet night's sleep, hot shower, 10 days' parking , and a ride to the airport for about $130.00 . The staff was friendly and helpful.

Apparently, this place has a contract with the airlines. We noted several "crew" members on our last stay, waited behind a couple to check in this time, and was on the shuttle with 4 more, 2 of whom were pilots, on the ride back "home", so figure if those guys are good enough to fly the plane after a night here, you should be good enough to ride in one after a night here.

I'm not a good mathematician, but it seems that a 10 day stay or more makes it cheaper to "Park-Sleep-Fly" here than use the long-term parking lots, even the off-airport places. There's also the "no sweating traffic on a long drive to the airport" factor if you live some distance away.

Minuses: The area beyond the hotel "oasis" where this place is located is pretty edgy - don't plan on walking to dinner. Still no Weather Channel or TV guide card in the room.

Sorry for not taking / posting pics of this place. Facility provided pics are "best foot forward" shots, of course, but not otherwise misleading.

Will we return for a third stay? Definitely.
