“Enjoyable Business Trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2013

I stayed there for two nights for a conference. Even though it was a business trip, I truly enjoy the time that I had there.

The best thing for the hotel is that is it right by the BART station. I was able to get off the airplane at Oakland airport, take the BART Air (the shuttle that takes me straight to the BART station) to BART. It took me about half an hour to get there.

The front desk staff were friendly, although they were having hard time assigning me a room on time, due to the number of conference attendees. I was given a room on 14th floor with a queen size bed. The bed was very comfortable, just like I would expect it at any Marriott. The view was great and the housekeeper was doing an excellent job keeping up with the room.

During the conference, I had a couple hours of free time and wanted to explore the city a bit. The concierge there was wonderful. He knew every little place that I could get to by BART and the street car. I was able to enjoy a wonderful evening with great sea food dinner.

Room Tip: The higher the floors are, the better the views.

I only live about 60 miles away from this hotel, and used it for one night for a work conference. The staff is very friendy, check in was efficient, the hotel is modern, beautiful and immaculate. Food was okay. Room was also in great shape, modern and quiet (although heard the TV through the adjoining door between rooms - why do they have so many adjoining rooms???) Bed was very comfortable.

If you are going to Oakland for the attached convention center rooms - very conveniient. It is in the downtown area, which is pretty much a concrete jungle. If you are from out of town, San Francisco is close via our commuter subway system, but there is not much in the area to attract and Oakland is known more for it's crime rate than anything else. This is not necessarily a bad neighborhood near the hotel, but I would not walk it at night. Not much foot traffic either. There is an attached parking garage to the hotel and there is a daily charge for parking. I don't know the rate, since it was included in the conference - but just an FYI for you.

Rooms are getting shabby and thread bare. The concierge lounge is an excuse, with nothing but soggy store bought lemon squares at night. I guess still convent if paid for on business but it falls behind most other Marriotts of the same supposed caliber.

This is a great hotel to stay when in the east bay. Modern rooms, good food, and excellent customer service. Parking is expensive. Not the cheapest place to stay if your on a budget. Located in downtown near bars and concert venues.

Very convenient location especially for business, right across the street from the BART and connected to the conference center. China Town is only a few blocks away and overall the area was fair for Oakland. The room, lobby and public areas were all very clean and fresh. Hotel gift shop, restaurant and bar were average for conference center hotels with limited and pricey selections. Only parking available was in the connected garage at $24 a night. I was surprised that wireless internet in the room was not complementary. Staff was helpful and friendly.

The staff was incredible, the bell hop, valet, housekeeping, etc, all went above and beyond while smiling and asking about my day. Housekeeping left me a personal thank you when I left a tip. The only issue we had the whole time was that there was a Burning Man Global Conference in the hotel at the same time, my entire floor smelled like pot every evening and the neighbors were partying in their room until 530 in the morning.

I stayed at the Marriott Oakland City Center and the experience was truly enjoyable. The staff is very friendly, the restaurant food was very good and the bar drinks were very tasty. The surrounding area in Oakland is OK, as well as it can be. The shops and restaurants behind the hotel are all very nice. Short ride on the BART across the street will get you to Fisherman's Wharf in 15 minutes. Can't beat the price! I would stay there again if visiting San Francisco.
