“Cute Little Place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2012

I really like this hotel. The location is quite convenient as it is located in Jack London Square- Oakland, CA. This means it is in close proximity to the ferry boat into San Francisco, the BART, a large movie theater, Yoshi's jazz club, in addition to being right on the waterfront. It's fashioned as a boutique hotel and it fits that bill quite nicely. The price was reasonable as compared to other hotels in the area. The front desk person offered me a significant upgrade into a suite for an extra $40, which we were quite delighted with. The lobby is snappy and smart looking. There is a nautical theme, of course. The room (we were in the "new wing") was extremely large with generally nice appointments. Construction is a bit rickety as you can hear footsteps above you (wood frame construction vs concrete). But, overall, it was a nice value is a great location.

Room Tip: Get the upgrade to a suite and a water view if you are going to book at this location.

We stayed at the hotel for just one night, but it was lovely! Checking in to the hotel was quick and the staff was very welcoming. When we checked in, we were upgraded to a wonderful balcony room on the second floor! Our room was huge with a very comfortable queen bed, small cafe table and two chairs, flat screen TV mounted on the wall and a small sofa. The room was recently renovated, so everything in the room was new and in excellent working order.

We sat on the balcony (which had a table and chairs) to enjoy a nice glass of wine before dinner. It was so relaxing and the view was just beautiful.

I agree with the other reviewers that the hotel is a little isolated, but if you're attending an event in Oakland or headed over to the monthly Antique Fair in Alameda, it's a great location.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony room facing the harbor.

We've had nice stays at this hotel, twice. No problems with train noise, since we both quite like trains, and the location is perfect for seeing concerts at Yoshi's. But the location is a bit isolated and there's not much around really. I wouldn't stay here if not for the proximity to Yoshi's. But we've never had any problem with service or sleep or quality of the room. I think the beds were a little soft, but we had a king and were able to find a comfy spot. :)

I made plans with family to go to a concert in Concord and decided to catch an A's game while in the Bay. I asked family in the Bay where should I stay in Oakland...the response was "why would anyone want to stay in Oakland?" I searched Trip Advisor and settled on The WaterFront. It was abour a 10min trip from the airport, $30- cab fare. The place is gorgeous from the outside. The check-in was flawless, just in time for the complimentary wine and cheese. The whole experience was awesome! I sat outside people watching enjoying the great selection of wine!! The restuarant manager was very charming and engaging the with guest. Jack London Square was so alive that night, I didnt want to leave Miss Pearls Jam House when the band began to play, but I bought tix for the game. I ate at Miss Pearls the next night and the food was AMAZING!! The manager was great and the service excellent! Sunday morning I walked out looking for coffee and to check out the beautiful view and Farmers Market is at JLS every Sunday what a treat. I will be back real soon!!

Room Tip: I choose the waterfront view balcony room!! Amazing views and peaceful!

I like the JDV hotels for their boutique hotel decor and service. This hotel is close to the marketplace and landing. The first Friday of the month you will be able to experience a street market where you can enjoy food, vendors, and some entertainers. The decor is nautical and the front desk staff pleasant. We arrived on the first Friday and had experienced a bit of chaos at the parking valet, but Saturday morning was much more efficient. We asked for a king room and received a TINY corner room on the third floor with one queen (or was it a double?) bed, the shower was a small stall, and there was no light in the entryway or closet. It seemed as if this room was previously part of a suite. Our family members traveling with us were in a room with two beds and MUCH larger. At checkout, we mentioned the small room size and were told we should have let the front desk know we were not satisfied with our room. We were only there to sleep, so we decided to just accept the room size as the bed was comfortable. In my opinion the walls were very thin and the occasional train and boat horns are too loud. Others may find this part of he ambiance of being on the landing.

Room Tip: Request a room on the top floor away from the elevator.
