I needed to stay nearby to the Oakland Airport. I have seen this Hilton property sitting for years at the entrance of the airport but had never stayed here before. Arrival at the airport by car rental was met with a stream of cars entering the parking lot for a wedding and a car show being held at the hotel. Once we parked, the walk to the lobby was close. Check in was quick and efficient. Staff was friendly, and explained some of the amenities of the hotel, including the location and hours of the restaurant and bar. Overnight parking will incur a nominal charge, which we knew in advance.
We had a room on the Hilton Honors level due to my status. Upon entering, I found a room that was a little dated and had a slightly musty smell, but found the room to be clean. The bathroom was on the smaller size with limited counter space. The bathtub was clean and water flowed down the drain with sufficient speed. The closet was small but contained a safe, iron and board.
The room itself was typical of a three star hotel in size and quality of furnishings. The bed was comfortable and the amount of light coming out of the wall and table lamps was sufficient. Air conditioning was central and about average for level of noise. The desk was adequate in size, and the lighting was adequate in intensity. The furniture was a little dated but was in satisfactory condition, unlike other similar properties where the furniture looked like it had been in battle. The windows allowed a sufficient amount of light to enter the room. The glass helped keep the noise outside from entering in; I heard no noise from airplanes.
There was a coffee and tea maker, which I enjoyed upon arrival. The bed was comfortable and appeared to be very clean with nice bed sheets and typical Hilton bedding. The carpets were clean in appearance but could probably use a change in the next several years. I could find no faults with the bathroom other than typical wear and tear of a hotel in the mid-range category and of that age (and I'm guessing this hotel was built in the 70s). A renovation to the rooms would e appropriate within a few years.
Like all Hilton properties, there was a charge for wifi, but the signal was strong and allowed for streaming of movies, that provided an option to paid in-room movies. I believe that wife was free in the lobby, which is usually the case for Hilton. My status provided free connection.
We ate breakfast the following morning. The offering use by almost everyone that morning was the buffet. It had an egg station, do-it-yourself waffle machine, sausage, bacon, fruits, yogurt. Not bad, not great, but sufficient to get you through the morning. I would stay here again for one or two night stays due to the quality, convenience, and value.
