This was a great curation of the great state of California. I love the state I call home and this was a great museum to understand where the state began and where we are going. From the gold rush, to Yosemitie and the great 60's, all aspects of Califiornias past tied in with history is here. Great location, and a up and coming part of Oakland, check it out...

The Art portion of this museum has a limited, but absolutely superb collection of modern, photographs, avant garde, and "Arts and Crafts" period pieces, primarily from California. You can do this in a little more than an hour, and admission is free on the first Sunday of every month.

Good to see a few David Park, Joan Brown and other of the bay area painters. Also, many lesser known CA artists. Museum is a very accessible; welcoming to those unfamiliar with art as well as to those who are in the profession. Aslo, although I dont; have any, it seemed like a great place to go with children.

Saw the 1968 show here and it was fantastic! This museum never disappoints in the way that it creates an engrossing and interactive experience that really brings history to life. Very nice staff and a great thing to check out if you're in the area.
