“Art and history”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2012

It has a small but very credible collections of mostly northern California artists, arts and crafts movement - Oct has an amazing Day of the Dead exhibit. there is also a history section ranging from gold rush icons to interactive tech exhibits plus some interesting natural history sections. Nice cafe for lunch and parking garage or street parking.

“Unsung Oakland Museum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2012

I really enjoyed the varied artwork. I am not necessarily the biggest fan of modern art. However, this museum has it all and also does a great job of weaving in the story of the artist with the city and with their particular craft or form. There really is something here for everyone and very inexpensive to visit.

“Oakland Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2012

I love this museum. It is a great spot in a great city. I have a membership and take friends from out of town to the museum. The exhibits are great, many are interactive, and the gift shop rocks.

“1968 Exhibit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

Lots of interactive exhibits. Be prepared to read a lot. Very informative and nice displays. Period clothing and furniture. Hubby bored sai he knew all the stuff already. Fun game of 7 random questions testing your musical knowledge of 1968. Exhibit closes Nov 25, 2012. Museum opens at 11 am. Closes at 5 pm CAUTION. During week best to go in afternoon. (or call ahead and ask if any school groups scheduled) TONS of noisy kids running around. They come for the California exhibit (which is excellent too) but they visit other exhibits as well. GREAT PLACE AND HELPFUL STAFF.

“Museum with so much more!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

Oakland Museum has many rotating exhibits, so you are never seeing the same thing twice. Currently there is the "1968" exhibit, loads of memorabilia from 1968, including a helicopter, Vietnam era! Also is the glass exhibit, it's just wonderful. On the first Friday of each month is an evening of entertainment. The cafe has excellent food. This is a must for any visitor to Oakland!
