“Upscale Mexican-GF Choices”

This is a nice find in downtown Oakland, a short walk up Broadway from Jack London Square, and a few blocks from the Marriott. The food is certainly a few notches above your normal Mexican. The meats and fishes were incredibly flavorful. Lots of GF choices, although it doesn't hurt to make sure the waiter/waitress understands this. Thought it was a little pricey. But this part of Oakland really needs classy eateries with vibrant atmospheres. So it's worth the trip.

Fantastic Mexican tapas place. The Tacos de Camaron, the Queso Fundido and that one with the steak and cheese was really, really good!

“Unique Mexican cuisine in a charming environment”

If you're looking for cheap Tex-Mex, you won't find it here. But you will find a great selection of small dishes, really tasty ingredients and a hopping bar scene. Not cheap, but worthy it. Just off Broadway in downtown, walking distance from the Marriott, Courtyard, Convention Ctr and Jack London Square.

“Great casual dining”

Options for dinner in downtown Oakland are limited. Tamarindo was a great find located just a few blocks from the Oakland Marriott. I took a small group of business colleagues for dinner there and everyone seemed very pleased with the great food, the great service and particularly the margaritas. The food is best experienced family-style so take only close friends or leave your food-sharing inhibitions at home.
