On a visit to our son in Oakland, our party of six tried Filippo's 2nd location on College Avenue. We were glad we did. Each of us was very happy with our entree, and we all chose different things, so I won't recommend one over another. This is a tiny place, holding maybe 20 at best inside, but there was a party of 16 outside in the tent annex braving the chill night air. Reservations are definitely recommended, as a walk-on could have quite a wait. For starters, excellent sourdough bread is brought, accompanied by a plate of olive oil infused with plenty of garlic and herbs. Couldn't get enough of it -- delicious. I had a seafood risotto which contained five large mussels, five medium shrimps, a scattering of calamari rings, and lots of chunks of salmon. It was very nicely done. You can Google the menu to check out the offerings. Wines by the bottle were very reasonably priced and looked like some care went into the selection. Service was friendly and efficient, but we never felt rushed. The half-salads we ordered were pretty generous, and the beet salad got especially good reviews from the two who had it. Decent Caesar, and mixed greens as well. In sum, this was a quite reasonably priced local trattoria, with excellent quality food that seemed prepared with care and imagination. Wish it was in my neighborhood!
