“Seafood and Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2013

Ok, it was our anniversary, so we were ready to have a special meal, and we weren't disappointed at all! Contemporary atmosphere, great service and terrific food. Of the seven dishes we ordered and split (4 appetizers, 1 salad, 1 entree, 1 dessert), all were really good, and a couple were truly excellent. The "chopped calamari" was probably the best we've ever had, perfectly and uniquely seasoned and flash fried (lightly); and the chocolate souffle w/ vanilla bean ice cream dessert (which had to be ordered at the beginning of the meal), was outstandingly light and delicious - and I usually don't order chocolate. Also enjoyed the caesar salad (fully dressed but not over the top); the oysters on half shell; lobster bisque; sashimi layered over mango, crispy won-ton and avocado; and the mahi-mahi entree, cooked perfectly. But I did say "Seafood and Service," and the servers were knowledgeable and personable, and teamed up to cover all of our needs without hovering. We also had a single house specialty cocktail, well mixed without skimping on the alcohol. This meal was definitely in our top ten over the last few years! While this was our first time eating there, we'll be heading back to Marica, and bringing our friends.

“Hopeless food.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013

It should have been a clue to me that there were plenty of tables available. But we needed to have dinner and went in. Husband ordered the salmon which came with the most horrible arugula pesto sauce -- green tasteless mush poured all over his potatoes and fish. Yuck! His "chopped" salad was mushy and just avocado and romaine lettuce "food processed" together. I love salads and tried to eat it but it was awful.

I ordered mussels and they were pretty good, broth could have had more flavorings but the mussels quality was very good. I had the beet salad and it was pretty decent. Stay away from the pesto and chopped salad. It was the worst meal we had during our visit to the area. Would never try going there again.

They seem to emphasize mixed drinks to maybe that's what one should focus on there.

“Cozy atmosphere, delicious food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

Even though this place is tiny, they usually have reservations available if you call ahead. They have a good cocktail list and delicious seafood. On our first visit, we enjoyed a complimentary appetizer and dessert! Staff is very friendly!

“Service you will not believe”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

Welcoming is the description when we walked thru the door. Promptly seated even without a reservation, we arrived early enough for a discounted price fix menu serving a fish specialty. The lobster bisque was the best I ever had! Main meal had some of best prepared asparagus. Topping it off with pannacota was special! Drinks were ample and water was always refilled promptly! We will go again!!

“If you are a foodie, you will be dissapoonted.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013 via mobile

My girlfriend and I were excited to try Marica, but were disappointed overall. We started with a calamari appetizer that had great flavor, but there were more greens on the plate than there was calamari. We shared the "chopped salad" next and found it to be more of an odd chopped egg salad instead. My girlfriend had a nicely cooled piece of Mahi-Mahi, and I had the Australian rack of lamb. Her fish was great, but my rack of lamb was medium instead of medium rare and it was the smallest portion of lamb I have ever received. What made the entree more disappointing was that the accompaniments to the entrees seemingly had been shoved into a blender. The fish came with pureed peas and something else that tasted, looked like, and had the same texture as baby food. For some ungodly reason, they did the same thing to my potato au gratin. To top it off, the creme brulee was also disappointing. It takes 10 seconds to put a torch to a coating of sugar that gives creme brulee that nice thin crispy layer on top, as well as just a touch of warmth. It was clear that Marica tried to save time by browning the sugar hours in advance during prep. That by no means is a sin, but they burnt the sugar. So, our creme brulee had a nice thick, burnt, and cold layer of sugar on top. Not the way to finish a sub par meal. There are plenty of other great restaurants in the Bay Area to try, so unless you are limited in the area that you can explore, try those first.
