“Very charming”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2012

I went for breakfast on a Sunday morning and it was nice and quiet. It is located a block from Jack London Square. They had charming old world décor and great service. We could have been diners at the turn of the last century because the atmosphere felt like a more refined age than most places these days. Breakfast prices run $8 to $13 and cocktails $6 to $9. It was a nice and relaxing meal. We all enjoyed our meal and there was a really nice selection. Parking on the street was free and close. After breakfast we went down to Jack London Square for the Farmers Market and that was really nice. I posted a review of that as well.

“Great atmosphere for a sexy date”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2012

This is like going back into the early 20th century, to an intimate dining room of a brothel or speakeasy, with lush red walls and sexy pictures, and a warmth in the room, the staff, and the food. Be sure you go there with someone you love! The food is great too.

“Atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2012 via mobile

The atmosphere inside is rich and relaxing, we had dinner and a very good time, the inside of the place is rich on colors, paintings and interesting decor. I had the seafood risotto special and or was perfect. I would go again, and it's worth the trip.

“Better at lunch than dinner”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2012

Fat Lady is one of those very old fashioned restaurants that are slowly disappearing, more's the pity. There's some dishes they do very well, especially at lunch time. We prize this, as it's actually more difficult to find a good place for lunch downtown than it is to find a good dinner restaurant.

The calamari steak 'abalone style' is a disappearing classic, which is a shame because Fat Lady does a great job demonstrating why it should remain on more menus. The Australian lamb "lollipops" are excellent, as is the old-fashioned housemade bleu cheese dressing on the basic green salads. All the beef dishes, lunch and dinner, are excellent, and the occasionally-offered chimichurri sauce is outstanding.

During a hot spell I had the vegetable salad Nicoise as my entree, with an addition of a perfectly cooked 6-oz filet of salmon added, and it was outstanding. We don't like a lot of dressing on our salads, and this one was perfectly done.

Service is brisk, cheerful, and efficient. Decor is old Victorian, deliberately campy. Chairs are tortuous; tables a bit crowded in. Upstairs has more daylight than downstairs.

“Great outdoor dining”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2012

This restaurant has been around a long time and the inside décor is reminiscent of an old speakeasy. It is dark and perhaps a bit over the top, but has a lot of character. However, we dined early on a weekday night and were seated, by preference, at one of the outside tables that border the sidewalk on two sides of this corner building. The restaurant is very near to Jack London Square, but there was not a lot of foot traffic. The server was great and very accommodating with spot on recommendations. We started with the cheese plate and an appetizer of baked scampi with a sauce of organic toy box tomatoes, kalamata olives, and feta cheese. Delicious! Our entrees consisted of the halibut special and rack of lamb, two couplets with dried cherries and apricot port wine sauce. There is an excellent cocktail menu and wine list. I had the rob roy royale with scotch, vermouth, and Peychaud bitters. I also tried a glass of Greek red wine, an Atlantis Mandalaria from Santorini. It was bold and quite nice.
