We were in Berkeley for the weekend, and received lots of good recommendations for dinner places in Oakland, but most were not open Sunday evening. Mezze had good TA reviews, so we tried it. It's in a charming neighborhood near Lake Merritt, and we saw lots of locals going there. Our server was a friendly young woman, and the owner was sitting at the bar with a local patron. We sat at the window which was totally open to the summer evening, very nice and relaxing. I ordered the roasted pepper and tomato soup, which was delicious, but fairly filling. Watch out! Next, I had the lamb sausage pizza, which was excellent, crisp flat crust, lots of mint, great! My hubby had a nice green salad just lightly dressed, perfect as a starter, and then he had the duck breast entree, which he loved, loved, loved. Wines by the glass are interesting and well priced. This is a perfect relaxing neighborhood restaurant. Who needs the snooty reservations policies of a place like Commis?
