“Contemporary Mexican”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2012

Always packed because the food is so good! The menu changes seasonally though there is usually some version of chile relleno and the carnitas are highly recommended. Love the cocktails here too

“Great Upscale Mexican Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2012

Normally I believe Mexican food should always be eaten exclusively in cheap home-style restaurants, but this is a notable exception. The food is excellent, nice location (at night there is parking in the stripmall across the street) in Temescal, and service is good, too. One of my favorites in the East Bay.

“Steep slide downhill”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2012

Wonderful and creative in 2009, but a recent visit fell absolutely flat. The cooked salsa is still excellent, but the ceviche was drowned in so much tomato puree and lime juice, it was awful. The housemade tortillas with the Fundido were great, but the dish itself was mediocre: thick layer of rubbery, hard-to-cut tasteless cheese over a skimpy layer of equally tasteless ground beef. Carne Asada was good but nothing exceptional.

Service was indifferent, the waitress disappearing for so long my DH gave up on the idea of an after-dinner coffee drink. This meal was vastly inferior to Bocanova/Oakland (Jack London Square) or even Coco Cabana/Pleasanton. Save your money and go elsewhere!

“Just OK, expected more”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2011

Visited this restaurant for dinner with a colleague after work. I expected more. The food was average and the prices are relatively high for what it is. We both ordered the chicken mole enchiladas. We also had the guacamole. Guac was actually decent with a bit of sweetness, but nothing to write home about. Mole enchiladas were just ok; I've had better mole at random Mexican restaurants in North Carolina.
I will likely not visit this restaurant again.

“Upscale Mexican Restaurant, Nice Atmosphere, Great Handmade Tortillas and Drinks!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2011

We were a group of 5 on a Friday night. We had shown up there with a phone call ahead of us and had to wait 1/2 hour but that was okay. We were near the end of the night was wel by the time we got a table.

One of us had beer and the others had mixed cocktails. They were wonderful, well made and went down too easily!

Their guacomole and chips, Meatball (albondigas) starter, Ceviche, Squash Blossom Quesadillas were excellent starters. We enjoyed them all. The presentation was great. The guacaole was too small a portion for a group of 5. They should have a large size on that one.

Two of us ordered Carnitas. One of them was just fine but the other was dried0-out leftover pieces. I told them they should send it back but the person did not want to.

Someone ordered the chile rellenos and we had a bite and it was done very nicely. the covering on the chilis was delicious and not too greasy or "floury -corn" taste.

Two people also ordered the carne asada and we all tasted it. It was lovely . The creamed spinach served all all liked and wanted more of it. The homemade tortillas were very good and we wanted more of them but they had closed the kitchen so we didn't get any more. They were gracious and got us some more chips. the chips they had were homemade and very good.

We got desserts and split 3 of them between us all. They were all good.
