Make a reservation for Dopo--the place is always packed! A very delightful aroma pervades the restaurant, which is always a great sign for me that the meal will be great. The service was very good, although the hostess and our server seemed to both be taking care of our table. It was a bit confusing, and we thought our server seemed annoyed by this. Nevertheless, my friend got a cocktail that he enjoyed, and I had their Mirror Pond ale. The beer was refreshing. Something I thought the restaurant could benefit from would be getting rid of the cocktails and focusing on beer and wine. The menu options begged for it. There were two options for beer (and this place is well-know for pizza!) We started with the salumi platter for two which was super high quality and delicious (bresaola, two types of salame, and two crostoni of pate). We then moved on to the Pizza Dopo--this is a must-have! Closest thing to Italian-style pizza I've had in Oakland so far. Perfect dough, fresh sauce, and delectable cheese all with a nice balance of oregano sprinkled atop. From there we finished with the risotto balls. They come two on a plate (this place is kind of built for parties of two, as the dishes we had were perfectly shareable). These rice dumplings are deep-fried with cheese and porchetta...really a treat. All said and done, our total was about $88, so as you can see it's really more for a special occasion as opposed to your neighborhood italian joint. I'd come back, but not for a while, at least until I can bankroll another visit!
