“I love the Grand Lake”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012

Great movies, comfortable seats, incredible decor, reasonable prices. And the politics are wonderful. The Grand Lake is the anchor of the neighborhood.

“Fun old fashioned comfortable theatre!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2012

Best place to go to really feel like you are at the movies. The theaters have amazing art deco decorations, like Egyptian themes, and every movie feels like an event.

“THE BEST THEATER IN THE EAST BAY”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

Reasons to go to the Grand Lake Theater:
It's a beautiful, original, old theater, well cared for by its owner.
It has an amazing, genuine Tiffany window in the lobby.
In the main theater on certain nights (I think Friday and Saturday) an organist plays the original old organ, which ascends and descends dramatically from the floor, before the film.
Admission and refreshments are much more reasonably priced than the other theaters,
and they have very good popcorn.
If you go here you'll be supporting a work of art, a historical landmark, and one of the very few independent theaters in the Bay Area.
The owner successfully sued the larger theater chains who nearly put him out of business. He includes pithy political comments on the marquis, along with the film titles.
It has an incredible neon sign with fireworks.
