“Good location, nice room, comfy bed & helpful staff...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2013

Stayed here just after the America's cup on a wee mini break with a friend. Originally planning to stay in San Francisco but prices were off the scale. This hotel however was at a really good rate and only moments from the BART to downtown San Francisco. Also on the direct line from the airport. Everything about the hotel was good. The check-in was swift and efficient. The staff member checking me in was really friendly and whilst there was a wifi problem, it was solved quickly. Old Oakland is nice to see and there are a few other good shops around. The whole hotel is really clean and the fresh cooked breakfast is pretty good too! Loved the bed. V comfy! Would definitely stay again.

Thanks for taking the time to review your stay with us. I’m glad you found our hotel during America’s Cup – we’re definitely a hidden gem for those visiting San Francisco! It’s good to hear that you found our staff to be helpful and that you were able to explore Old Oakland. We hope to see you next time you’re in the Bay!

I had two nights at this hotel and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I had a very large room (237), which had a very large soft bed and great air conditioning. The sink/vanity was actually separate from the bathroom, which was a good idea. The bathroom was quite large as well so plenty of space all round.

The hotel is in a great area in Oakland with a number of bars and restaurants nearby and a small supermarket opposite, although oddly enough it didn’t sell much in the way of toiletries.

Getting around. I landed in San Francisco and caught the BART train to the hotel (nearest station is 12th Street). The trip cost $8.50 each way and it took around two hours from the time I landed at SFO until I arrived at the hotel. There was no help at the ticket machines at the airport, which was rather frustrating but other travellers were helping each other with the tickets. It is only a two minute walk to the hotel from 12th St station (use exit B1) and keep going in the same direction as you exit the station stairs. 12St station to Embarcadero (one of the main tourist areas for San Francisco) will cost $3.15 each way and only takes 10 minutes on the BART train. Oakland airport is about 25 mins away and will cost $1.75 each way. You have to change from the BART to a bus as the train doesn’t run all the way out to Oakland airport yet (this section is still under construction). One more point; if you are planning on going to Alcatraz make sure you book it at least three weeks in advance as it sells out very quickly!

I stayed at this hotel as all those in SFO seemed far too expensive (as it turned out the Americas Cup was on!) but looking back I wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again as the location is great and it is easy to get into SFO from here anyway. It is run by great staff with easy access to either of the main airports. Highly recommended.

The hotel is conveniently located near a BART station. Upon my arrival, I was given 8 chocolate squares from some promotion. The room is relatively large. The modest fitness center (with only one elliptical machine) opens 24 hours, which is nice. The hotel is next to Chinatown. The unexpected bonus is that it is across from a farmers' market, where I bought flowers and fruits quite cheaply (probably because it was near the end at 2 pm) for my relatives.

Clean, nice hotel with a friendly staff. Enjoyed Breakfast options. Especially thank Mr Shafi for hospitality during Breakfast hours. Only hitch was confusion in the staff about a misplaced poster which gave me a sleepless night till the same staff came again. This was avoidable had there been more coordination between hotel staff.

Free Wi-Fi in the room that was pretty fast. The hotel is 3 blocks away from the 12th Street BART station which makes getting into San Fran very quick. The TV channel selection was decent and much easier to navigate than the City Center Marriott across the street. I would stay at the Courtyard Marriott in Oakland rather than the City Center due to the free Wi-Fi.

This place was clean, comfortable, and a very convenient location. I stayed there with my sister while visiting my son. We thought the price was very good and the staff was especially attentive. I would stay here again for sure.

Ever been to downtown Oakland? Well, when I say that this hotel is an oasis from the chaos that is downtown Oakland, I mean that both literally and figuratively. Unless you have business in Oakland (which I frequently do) or are feeling strong, you may never want to venture outside this hotel. Great staff, clean and spacious rooms, and overall enjoyable stay. Keep up the great work!

One note on the "special offer" offered here on TripAdvisor... It's just to earn Marriott points I would have earned on my own otherwise? Not sure what the "special" or "offer" there is in that? No reflection on hotel and its great staff, however.
