Super weekend rate! Great Breakfast! Great newly remodeled room! Great Service! Next to Chinatown. We decided to park on the street and it was easy enough to find street parking on the weekend. Easy to maneuver around. After reading many of the reviews we decided that the area was not really an issue and it wasn't.....will definitely stay here again!

I've had to go to Oakland Ca. several times last year and earlier this Jan.and the hotel choices are minimal at best. The full serve Marriott is too often sold out at my company's rate and I've had to go across the street 3 times. It is old-school Courtyard in a dreary looking 'storefront' location on Broadway. Doors lock at night and security is on-site, because, to say the least, the neighborhood can be unnerving, especially at night.
The hotel is finally catching up with the times and in the midst of upgrading to the newer Courtyard model. But the rooms need upgrading as well. Took me up to 5 minutes to get warm water in the sink. Same worn out towels you get at most Courtyards. My co-worker returned every night to her room and got a cheap high as the 'weed' odor wafted into her room - every night! It's Oakland - I get it! Breakfast room was freezing - weather was quite cold, but hey, turn the heat on. Company paid $194 per night before the $27 tax - Yup, I said corporate rate of $194.
Positives: Immediate area seems to have private security guards and there are several good restaurants 2 blocks away - area well lit
Positive: Everyone on the staff was good and cordial
Recommendation: BART is on 2-3 stops from downtown San Francisco, close to everything and likely cheaper rates!

This is my first time in Oakland. I have stayed with Marriott before, so I know their reputation. This one is right in China Town, which I like. There is a art & Final right across the street. My room was very clean and cozy. The staff was awesome and genuinely smiling. I have to come up here periodically for school, so this will be my Bat cave when am here. I have been in worse neighborhoods than this. Just be aware of your surroundings and use common sense...that goes for anywhere you go.

In a great part of town - nice beds - quiet rooms, the staff is the best, so extra friendly, they went out of their way for each little request. The neighborhood restaurants are the greatest, enjoyed my two days there, next to China town, Get there on Friday for the little market across the street. Wonderful produce and the best street food ever, such varieties.
