“Surprisingly Safe For The Area”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2014

Arrived here at 1am after booking online.

First impression was WAY better than expected given the area.

It is a little off the beaten path but that's good!

Room was clean
Staff was friendly
Bed was comfortable

I would come back if I had an event at the collesium and didn't want to make the drive

We decided to stay in Oakland to avoid the high prices of San Francisco. Was thankful we were only there for one day. Getting to the hotel late at night seemed very sketchy. Very industrial which could be fine but not when you know Oaklands reputation. Got there around 10 and checked in, office smelled very distinctly like asian soup, but thats not biggy. Got to the room which seemed very renovated and nice. When using the bathroom, I quickly noticed a LARGE patch of black mold on the wall right in front of the toilet. Then behind the toilet I noticed 3 or 4 small cockroaches. I quickly killed them and another about an inch long in the bathtub. I was disgusted but it was late and the rest of the room looked nice. I did a fairly quick but thorough check of the rest of the room to find no more bugs. It seemed like they had tried to cover the mold with paint but that it had worn off or something. The wifi was alright and tv was nice. Small room but it was also cheap. Felt safe in the complex as it had one entrance that turned into a U of rooms that were very lit up. Ice area seemed very unprofessionally installed and was just backed up to an open stairwell. Had i not used the restroom, would not have had an issue with the room. But the thought of cockroaches plagued me all night. Room was quiet enough and had no issues with neighbors or upstairs neighbor (we were on the 1st floor). Staff was fairly unhelpful and when checking in had us sign an odd contract that seemed copied and unprofessional. Would not recommend others stay in this hotel. We only did because of our Choice Hotels Membership discount. Breakfast was standard but had to figure it all out even though the desk was right next to the breakfast bar. Had to ask where the milk was. And coffee spat out thick gross something.

Room Tip: Don't book this hotel. What seems nice in the photos are just cosmetic fixes hiding real big is...

I came to this hotel because I'm a choice points member. I tried making a reservation online but their system was down. Not down enough to run my card but down enough not to give confirmation code. We go to the hotel tell them we tried to make reservations she charges us 85.00 dollars totally different then online keep in mind we're choice members think we got the online rate nope but we did get charged a 100 deposit. No worries check in the next morning I make an online reservation for this day, go to office the lady says oh the system kicked u reservation out so we charged your card for the 71 and change u paid cash when u got here so we will call it even. Ok but where is the difference in the 85.. The manager then said if I give u the difference I'll be taking a loss I can't do that. So we're like fine .. Head back to the room we see a Caucasian man in the lot out of curiosity we ask if he had to pay a deposit... His response what deposit... Now I'm burning hot... We call from our room ask what is that bull and was told to leave their property.. Now keep in mind we are choice elite members meaning we use choice hotels a lot. So we stayed one day but my card still got charged throwing account all into chaos cause they took it out four days later..then it took an extra three to get back..point being they are rude people who have no sense if hospitality. Customer service is not shown here... Oh the deposit we was told would be given after we checked out and they ok the room.. Well let's just say she never left the desk to check just reached in the drawer pulled the same bill out and handed it back... Oh so u tell the blacks a deposit as a hope they go somewhere else... So yeah hospitality is not their strongest suit..

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights. We came here by car, so it was not a problem to access to the hotel and San Francisco downtown. But the location is very odd, feels like in the middle of nowhere (or highway). You can easily go to San Francisco via Bay Bridge in 15-20 minutes. The room was not too bad but it was not superb. However, the main disadvantage was the proximity of the hotel to the highway and train tracks, which are very noisy. Therefore we asked for a room from the opposite side of the highway. It was at least less noisy. All in all, we selected this hotel because here the parking is free and we did not want to pay $35-$50 nightly parking fee in San Francisco hotels.

Room Tip: Ask for a room from the other side of the highway.

This must be what it is like to live in a US Embassy. Inside the walled compound it is very well kept with roses, tile on the walkways and a nice clean fairly recently updated standard hotel room. Outside is where Oakland has a lot of its razor wire and graffiti. We walked a mile or mile and a half down Coliseum way to O.co Coliseum to see an A's game. There is a lot of just "stuff" stored behind chain link fences with razor wire at the top. And of lot of it is kind of junky and just thrown in there and again, lots and lots of graffiti. I wasn't scared, but I was glad it was a day game. The hotel is fine and if I'd only driven in not had such a good walking view of the area my impression would be better. It is right off the interstate and not that far away from the Bay Bridge into San Francisco. Decent price. Decent room. But I've never seen a hotel in such an odd area.

We were on our 40th anniversary trip where we originally met in San Francisco. Not wanting to pay the inflated SF prices we decided to stay here based on reviews. Our room was upstairs away from the freeway so the room was very quiet. We requested this based on previous reviews. The floor was creaky so people downstairs probably heard it. The room was large, nicely furnished, very nice sink area with granite counter, looked to be newly renovated. Bathroom and room were very clean. Breakfast was ok with instant oatmeal, white bread toast, coffee, juice, etc. For the reasonable price we paid, we were very happy with our stay there. It is in an industrial area but very close to the freeway so was convenient to get anywhere. We would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Stay upstairs, away from freeway. Room 202 was great.

Basic motel in a little bit noisy area next to freeway. We had booked our rooms couple hour advance via mobile app, and everything went fine at check in.

Our room was located in a building next to freeway and on firts floor, and you could hear everything from upstairs. Sometimes it felt like someone was going to fall through the ceiling. I would recommend a room in second floor. Didnt get any hot water from the shower at evening.

Complimentary breakfast was basic, cereals, white bread and oatmeal.

We stayed here overnight sleep in June and travelled as two couples.
