“Great, great crew”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2012

Went on a private booking from Pier 40 in SF under the Golden Gate and back toward Sausalito, then under the Bay Bridge to see the new span. The crew could not have been nicer or more gracious. And the heads were more comfortable than some of the land-based restrooms I've been in recently...

Caveats: ladders are very narrow. May not be easy going for larger people.
Children under 6 not allowed.
Bundle up! The bay winds get chilly.

To echo what others have said: if you get a chance to sail aboard the USS Potomac, GO.

“Excellent cruise on San Francisco Bay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2012

If you like being on the bay, you've got to try the USS Potomac. They have 2 and 3 hour cruises (sometimes themed) every week from April through November. The ship was FDR's presidential yacht from 1933 to 1945. In the 50s, 60s, and 70s the ship gradually declined until it was running drugs and sunk to the bottom of the bay at Clipper Cove. The Port of Oakland rescued it, In the mid-80s the ship was restored with public and private funds to its former glory, and has been taking locals and tourists out on the bay since 1995. All cruises are narrated by knowledgeable historians. Trained Docents give thorough tours of the entire ship, and are eager to share stories about FDR and the depression/WWII years. You can go out on the bay on Hornblower Cruise or a ferry boat, but there's nothing like a cruise on the bay on the USS Potomac!

“Amazing experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2012 via mobile

A beautiful piece of floating history combined with a cruise around a lovely bay. The Docents are very knowledgable and worth chatting to. If you get the chance for a cruise on the Potomac it's well worth it.

“Fabulous Cruise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2012

We feel very fortunate to have been able to have taken one of the few cruises offered on F.D.R.'s former yacht. It was great to experience this piece of history, and enjoy the views of the bay, in a classier, more intimate setting than a large ferry boat. The cruise was one of, if not the, highlight of our trip.
Before the cruise they show a short and informative video about the history of the boat. The cruise was fully narrated. Knowledgable docents circulated about the ship answering any questions you may have. We had a great, and comprehensive, tour of the entire bay area. We went past the Oakland shipyards, Mythbusters testing grounds, under the Bay Bridge, around Angel Island and Treasure Island, past Sausilito, the Golden Gate Bridge, and San Francisco.
Beverages and ship tour were included.
A great outing!!!!
